hurrah for the New Jersey prices (and some info for you)

Well done, zipcar! The prices in Princeton are now $8.50 an hour without a mileage charge (that I can see.) This is excellent policy, and puts zipcar back into play for many more of my trips (for example, zipcar is now more economical -- and much more convenient -- than the Princeton area taxi charges.)

Let me give some examples:

* picking someone up from the main train station is now cheaper than telling them to take a taxi -- it's about six miles round trip, and you have to allow an hour, so at the previous rates that was running around $13 or so, a dollar more than the taxi $12. However, at the new prices, it is a no-brainer: the price is $8.50, plus the bonus of meeting your friend at the station.

* I can get down to the Quaker meeting when my bicycle is broken; it is $14+tip by taxi, and now $12.75 by zipcar (an hour and a half to be safe.)

When you advertise zipcar to the students, faculty and residents here, you should put this kind of info in to the brochure (check with the Princeton taxi commission to get the correct fares -- they are planning to raise them soon.)

(I should add that that is *not* taking into account the NJ sales tax or the new Homeland Dissent-Reduction Fee, which would tack on maybe another $3 or so depending. On the other hand, I'm not sure I remember the Princeton Junction fares correctly; I've been charged $14, and sometimes $16 depending on the phase of the moon.)
