"VCD Disk that SEEMS empty"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have some problems with some / a vcd format..

when the cd is inserted, it can be read.. and it shows that the disk have some data inside because the disk capacity shows it is full.. (when browsing using windows explorer)

but when you open the cd-rom directory theres nothing inside.. not even when you set to show all files..

i have tried the cd in both my cd-rom and dvd-rom.. but still the same..

can someone explain it? are there softwares that can play these kind of VCDs??

thanks!

You probably have a copy protected VCD. I have never seen one, but I have read about them and I know they exist. They are made to not be playable on PCs so that they can't be copied, but they should play OK on VCD or DVD players. Manufacturers make some kind of hybrid disk file system that a PC can't correctly recognize, but a VCD/DVD player can. A similar technique is used to copy protect audio CDs. I'm sorry, but I don't know any way to play these discs on a PC.
