Do you wear a Scapular?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Hi everyone, I would like to know how many of you here wear a Scapular? I have tried numerous times but it does itch. Mother Angelica said it should be worn around the neck, not pinned on undergarments. Also, the medal is only if absolutely necessary. What do you think? Do you wear one? thanks, maryann

Hello Maryann,

I do not wear one but I have thought about it. I think the "itching" part is something you could get used to over time. Plus, it can always be offered up as a prayer of suffering ;)

Scapulars come in various materials. If one of the "fuzzy" ones itches, try one made of a smoother fabric, or one that has a plastic covering.

I wear the medal brown scapular and have for many years. It doesn't itch. If you wern't allowed to wear a medal one that it wouldn't be approved by the Church.

Maybe your skin is allergic to the cloth one. Try a medal one.

I wear the Brown Scapular on and off. I know that I should be more consistant in wearing it but it seems to ride up the neck alot and I'm constantly pulling it down. Mabe one day i'll learn to tough it out and keep it on.

Dear maryann,

I too wear the brown scapilar round my neck and so does my family. We firmly believe why we wear it too. I never take it off and even have asked permission to have it on during a surgery. I know it itches at first but you get used to it and then it is ok. I wish and pray that more people of faith would wear it.

God Bless, Ramanie.

Hi!

The scapular does itch when you first wear it. The plastic covered ones are uncomfortable. I find the brown cloth ones with the cloth stitching easiest on the skin. The straps go quickest on these, I think. Can't remember when I stopped wearing one but I still carry them in the car and may just take it up again.

God bless,

I wear one as I am a Carmelite Tertiary and the brown scapular is the habit of the order.

Hugh:

Where have you been?

Found it difficult to connect to your new forum. Novus Ordo watch had removed the link. This was the way I used to connect to it.

:-(

Hope you are all well.

The new Carmelite regulations tell us that the scapular may be made of any cloth material. Polyester doubleknit is excellent and washes well and does not itch. The scapular medal is just as good as the cloth. The only difference is that the original investiture must be made with a blessed cloth scapular. All subsequent cloth and medal scapulars do NOT need to be blessed. Br. Walter, OCDS

Dear Brother Walter

I am interested in your use of the title 'brother'. I am not aware of any secular tertiaries using this title.

(I am assuming you are secular and not a regular member of an aggregated or affiliated institute.)

I would be grateful if you could enlighten me.

Kind regards

Hugh
