On August 12, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- "saints" and "blesseds" whose souls are now in heaven:

Sts. Anicetus, Photinus, and companions, of Nicomedia (from Asia Minor [now called Turkey], family members, martyred in 305)
Sts. Anthony Nguyên Dich of Chi Long, Michael Nguyên Huy My of Ke Vinh, and James Dô Mai Nam of Dông Biên (Vietnamese, two farmers and a priest, martyred by beheading in 1838 [beatified 1900, canonized 1988])
St. Cassian of Benevento (Italian, bishop, d. 340)
St. Euplius of Catania (Sicilian, deacon, martyred by beheading c. 304)
Sts. Felicissima and Gracilian (Italian, Christian and pagan blind girl cured by him in prison, martyred c. 304)
Bl. Florian Stepniak of Zdzary [baptized Józef (Joseph)] (Polish, Capuchin priest, martyred by Nazis at Linz [Austria] at age 30 in 1942 [beatified 1999])
St. Herculanus of Brescia (Italian, bishop, c. 550)
Sts. Hilaria, Eunomia, Eutropia, and Digna, of Augsburg (German, St. Afra’s mother and her three maidservants, martyred by burning c. 304)
Bl. Pope Innocent XI Odescalchi of Como [Innocenzo] [baptized Benedetto (Benedict)] (Italian, elected to papacy in 1676, opposed ecclesiastical nepotism and several heresies, reigned until death at age 78 in 1689 [beatified 1956])
St. Jambert of Canterbury (British? abbot, archbishop, d. 792)
Bl. Joseph Straszewski of Wloclawek [Józef] (Polish, diocesan priest, martyred by Nazis at age 57 in 1942 [beatified 1999])
Sts. Julian and Macarius (Syrian, missionary monks, early martyrs)
Bl. Karl Leisner of Rees (German, youth leader, imprisoned by Nazis in four camps, secretly ordained priest at Dachau, died [tuberculosis] at age 30 in 1945 [beatified 1996])
St. Merewenna (British)
St. Porcarius and companions, of Lerins (French, abbot and about 500 monks, martyred by Moslems c. 732)
