I have a Samsung DVD player, model 909K. It is a pretty old one, which I bought in 2000. I can play only genuine VCDs or DVDs. But I am unable to play CD-Rs, which are normally available for movies in rentals. The player can play DVD, SVCD, ACD, VCD etc,but they have to be genuine. My questions are: 1) Can this player be made to read CD-Rs. 2)The region code is 5. Can it be made to read DVDs from other regions.

http://www.dvdrhelp.com has some information about your player. It seems that this player does not support CD-R media and there is nothing you can do about it. However, one guy said that the 909 model (not the 909K, but maybe it's close enough) can use the Samsung 709 hack to go into multi-region mode. Apparently this involves using the remote control. You'll have to do a web search to find out more information about this because I don't know what you have to do.
