Catholic marrying Armenian

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Hi, My fiance and I wish to get married next year however I am Catholic and he is Armenian. I would like to get married in Catholic church and he would like to get married in Armenian church in order to keep both families happy. Please can anyone help or advise me on what to do or some sort of alternative. We do not wish to have a civil ceremony.

What do you mean by "Armenian"? I'm not sure what this is.

He is of the Armenian church.

Doesn't the Armenian Church belong to the Eastern Rites Chruch under the Pope of Rome?

The largest Armenian Church is Eastern Orthodox. There is also a Catholic Armenian Church in communion with Rome which I believe is a smaller denomination. There is even a Protestant Armenian Church.

I would suspect D Carlin's fiance is from the Eastern rite.

The best thing: talk to the priests.

There is an Armenian Catholic Church, in full communion w/ the Roman Catholic Church. Roman Catholics may receive the sacraments at any Catholic Church. They are different Rites, but the same church.

There is also an Armenian Orthodox Church. They are not in full communion w/ the RCatholics, and have been separated since the 700's or so.

The Roman Church does accept that the Armenian Orthodox Church has a valid priesthood and sacraments. This may be important for your parents to know, if your fiance is a member of this church.
