Saint Silas?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I have found conflicting information on Silas (Silvanus?) who accompanied St. Paul.

Silas is refered to as Saint Silas by the Greek Orthodox Church, but is not listed as a Roman Catholic Saint.

Q -- Was he canonized?

I have been involved in Jail Ministry of late and am considering a name for a local association of lay jail ministers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

God Bless,

Well, I hate to answer my own question but... I did find St. Silas listed with a feast day of July 13th. I finally found him listed on Catholic Online -- the host of my email.

So...sorry.

I would like to know when he was canonized though.

God bless

Hi, John

"..I would like to know when he was canonized though..."

If he accompaied St. Paul than he propbably wasn't Canonized. Paul was killed by Nero for his faith in 67.

The Canonization process under the popes authority began around 950. Prior to the introduction of the Canonization process people were reconized as saints after being martyred or through the acclamation of the faithful.
