Parking Lot Attendants...To Tip or not to Tip?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : zipcar : One Thread

In one garage I was greeted with the car pulled out and waiting for me, but at the 12th Street Garage bet 7th and 8th in the Slope, their attitude is the worst. Take it out yourself-- put it back yourself.

I'm no maven parker. Like many Zipcar clients, I am an infrequent driver, but upon my return, these bozos demanded that I squeeze the car back in between two others and near some pretty expensive adult toys. After my admittedly dicey attempt, I refused. "I don't BELIEVE you," the attendant on duty July 5th at 11pm snorted. He then parked it himself, as he did everything else that came in.

Do these guys just want us to hit other vehicles? Why are they so rude to Zipcar customers? Zipcar probably pays a mint for these spots, but does Zipcar tip these guys, or is it up to us?

Your experiences, please...

i use that garage too. i actually don't find their attitude to be that bad (though i hate the guy who smokes inside), nor do i mind parking that much. it's not that tight, though i can see if you're not a great driver it might be tough to navigate. i do find that often they critique my parking job, make me adjust it, etc. but usually they're pretty nice about it.

look, the zipcars are a pain in their butts. people coming in and out all the time. newbie people with questions that they can't answer about the cars, why they're not working, etc. people putting the cars back in the wrong places. etc etc. that's no excuse for being rude - just a reason.

also, consider the alternatives. if it's not in an assigned ground floor space, then you have to wait for them to bring it around, call ahead, etc, all bad options. this is what goes on at 11th street in the slope, where it's never ready even when i call ahead. once they made me squeeze the prius into the elevator there. not fun. now i just leave it out in the open when they come back, and they don't seem to care.

good luck with it...
