Catholic/Non-Practicing Jewish Wedding

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Hi there. I am Catholic and my boyfriend Nick is a non-practicing Jew. We would like to have our wedding ceremony in an outside venue by a priest. What do I need to do? Do I need to get a dispensation from the bishop? Do I need to guarantee that our children will be Catholic in order to get married by a priest?

I really want our marriage to be recognized by the Catholic religion. It seems like a very difficult process!

Kristen,

I don't know if anyone has responded privately to you but I'll throw a few thoughts in...

Yes, you will need to get permission from the Bishop to have a wedding outside of a church. Depending on your diocese this permission may be easier or more difficult to obtain.

Hope that's helpful.
