well... some are bad but some are good. it all depends on who made them. if you do buy one.. my advice is to buy them somewhere where you know its going to be a good quality anime. (example: sam goodies, sun coast, etc.)

Well, it depends if you want the japanese w/ english subs, or the english dubbed ones. The english dubbed normally come in different packaging. If you buy from a known company then they will probably be real most likly. I've bought a lot of box sets and I have gotted all of them off of e-bay, if your shopping there you have to watch out, read carfully and if they don't state what type of package they are in then ask them. Normally if you are looking for real ones you want to find the auction that gives you the most information about the item; Region Coding, Subtitles, # of Disks, Episode #'s, Dialogue. If it doesn't say what kind of casing ask if they are in fold out, cardboard/plastic casing if they are that means they are authentic.

Hope I helped.

Also you have to watch out for price, some people really try to rip you off. If there are 20-30 episodes the most you should pay is $30 at the most, depending on how rare the anime is that you are looking for. Animes that have 60+ episode you will probably be paying $50 and up for, again depending on the rarity of the anime.

If your paying like $30 or less for an anime with 60 or more episodes chances are good that there bootlegs(tapes/dvds that people made themselves). If the episodes are packaged the traditional black plastic case, that you get regular movies in, and they have only japanese dialogue w/ subs, you don't want them cause they are probably copies or homemade.
