Live -- 6th leg

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

I'm back, but probably not for more than a half hour or so. Jukola is now in the 6th (of 7) legs and it is time to see what is up.

5.2 km in the 6th leg and I'm listening to a Finnish whisper in the forest. I can't understand what he's saying, but I'm guessing he's describing the fight between Halden SK and Kalevan Rasti who are just two seconds apart at 5.2 km.

Delta (Mook's pick) is a bit less than four minutes back.

KOK (my pick) with Holger H-J is about 7:37 back in 7th place. Chasing KOK is Hakan Eriksson (who is what? 42 years old?).

What about some of the other teams I've been watching? Lidingo 1 is in the top 40. Casper had a good run. Lidingo's top runner, Johan Nasman, isn't running. I'm not sure why. Injured?

Attackpoint is moving up, but still way, way back in 663rd place at the first radio control on the 4th leg.

IKHP has fought back up to 22nd place. Their second leg runner had a boom that cost a good 4 minutes early in the leg. That hurt, but they are making progress moving up the field steadily.

KOK 2 had Sandy H-J out. She's droped places and the team is in 130th place after Sandy's run. From her split times I'd guess she made a small miss in the beginning but has mostly just lost time steadily. I don't really know if Sandy would be satisfied, but I'd say she's run pretty well.

8.4 km split shows Halden and KR still together and pulling out a bit from Delta. Novikov is running for Delta. You've got to think Novikov has a shot to pull some time back. I wonder how Novikov will do at the WOC this summer?

Hi Gene!

When I ran Jukola I always ran one of the late legs (5th and 6th if I remember right). Running at 3 or 4 a.m. is a special feeling. I'm not sure if the feeling is "good" or "bad" but I've had decent races at Jukola, so I guess it must be "good."

It seems like they'll be coming to the finish soon.

The speaker just announced that Halden has a slight lead over KR now. They'll be showing up at a spectator control in a couple of minutes.

Halden is ahead by 13 seconds at this point. The last leg will have Emil Wingsted and Theiry G. racing head-to-head. Who will win?

If it was "catchingfeatures" there would be no question. TG is the best in the world at catchingfeatures. In the forest it'll be a bit more difficult to pick.

Team Attack Point #1 moved up 293 places (1004th to 711) on Christian Gigon's 3rd leg. Leif Anderson is out on the 4th leg.
