The Rapture-- what does our Church say about this?

is there a biblical passage that explains this anticipated event?

The Church doesn't teach anything about this. The Church teaches Christian truth, and rapture theory was never a part of genuine Christian teaching. It originated with two itinerant fundamentalist preachers in the 18'th century, and gradually found its way into the theologies of many Protestant churches. No Christian on earth ever heard of such a thing before then. There is no passage of scripture which legitimately supports such an idea. However, the passage out of which this bogus theological concept has been built is 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 ... "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord."

Anyone with concerns about this should read "The Rapture Trap" by Paul Thigpen. Here is a brief review ...
