Can a Divorced Lutheran marry in a Catholic Church if he Converts to Catholicism?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I am dating a guy who was married at 19, and divorced at 20 due to her committing adultery amongst other problems. We had spoken about marriage and he has said that he may convert to a Catholic (he's now Lutheran). Could we be married in a Catholic Church? What if he ended up not converting and stayed a Lutheran? What are the Catholic Church laws on this?

It is possible to marry in the Catholic Church whether he converts or not, once his former marriage is declared invalid by a marriage tribunal (what is commonly called an "annulment"). Judging from your description of his former marriage, that should not be a major obstacle. But it does need to be done.
