"DID" - A new spin

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

It's January. You've been elected President of the United States.

It's your inaugural party. You can only select 4 musical acts to perfom.

Column A: Any group/artist from history.

Column B: The group/artist must be living as of this date.

Who would you choose and WHY?

I work with men and women of all races and some of the choices so far have been: Santana, The Bee Gees, Robert Johnson, Ray Charles, Elton John, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Parliament Funkadelic, Led Zeppelin, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and U2.

Group A: Sam "Lightin Hopkins", the greatest blues singer guitar picker of all time. Group B: Norah Jones & Willie Nelson singing willie's songs.

Lightin Hopkins is the greatest. Norah Jones is Billie Holiday re- incarnated duet with Willie's lyrics.

After Dinner Act: Whitney Houston - The greatest voice of my generation - bar none. Closing Act: The U.S. Marine Corps Band - Send folks on their way - quicktime.

My choice would be open with "His Royal Highness" Prince to set the tone. To mellow it out a little, I would have Sister Anita Baker. For the youngersters voting for me and getting me elected, I would have Usher...with cameo appearences featuring Lil'John and Outkast (today's version of Parliament/Funkadelic). To close out the celebration, Brother Stevie Wonder...however, I would enjoy having the "Godfather of Soul" sing "livin' in America!" Now that would be a "Big Bash!"

Why is that there are only 2 gospel acts listed?

What about Kirk? Fred? Beverly? Yolanda? Sam?
