Worried About Boxtorrents...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Community Anime Reviews : One Thread

I'm really worried about Boxtorrents. I know they were planning an update but considering the last thread I posted in was about ADV planning to sue and shutdown all Bit-Torrent sites I cant help but find the timing worrysome.

Does anyone know what the deal is? Are they just updating again or...

Thanks in advance --Reiku

-- andrew kim (fdsafdsa@hotmail.com), June 29, 2004.

it is annoying at the end of the month because all the websites r down or the bandwithit is run out

-- shortstop (shortstop@narutochaos.com), June 29, 2004.

Man is currently down....i hope they back soon on line

-- Balamacab (balamacab@gmail.com), June 29, 2004.

The tracker is still running, so... wait & see!

-- shiranai (ettasoeur@netcourrier.com), June 29, 2004.

well. now the tracker is down too. im going to cry! i need my anime!!!

-- that guy (TENCHIMUYO0911@yahoo.com), June 29, 2004.

u know what ..... i tried to open boxtorrents but then...its seems that the site is closed .... i cant open the page at all ... i wonder if they going to re-open the site or not ... if boxtorrents is closed for good .... i'm doomed ....

-- someone else (henry_Hw2002@yahoo.com), June 29, 2004.

-- Misato001 (Spacecowboy991@aol.com), June 29, 2004.

I keep getting a "problem connecting to tracker message" on Bittorrent. What's going on?

-- (godgundam10@comcast.net), June 29, 2004.

I just found the site.. It can't go down.. ;_; I need my anime...

-- pher (greenwriter@cox.net), June 29, 2004.

Bah. Well it's not ALL totally down; I have a few files that I'm still seeding/uploading from boxtorrents, so I'd assume that there are other files that are still working out there too.... But I *did* find this site because I was wondering what happened.

-- WyldKyss (wyldkyss@rocketmail.com), June 29, 2004.

I ran into this thread after doing a google search about boxtorrents. EVERYTHING is down right now and with no warning either. I bet is' just the bw issue. I can't connect to any link through box and it's weird cause I have quite a few saved in my history. The even weirder thing is that once I rebooted my computer, all the torrents dealing with box were deleted. I dunno, seems like a some kind of conspiracy to me.

-- Scott (b00mer@rx-7.net), June 29, 2004.

i feel so cold without my beloved boxtorrents... i hope they do comeback soon, u really spooked me when u mentioned ADV is planning to sue and shutdown all Bit-Torrent sites

-- mckenzie_d88 (mckenzie_d88@hotmail.com), June 29, 2004.

It's possible that they're updating. However, there have been a lot of viruses going around. I've tried five different torrents and I've gotten nothing. I don't know if the torrents are connected to the site's main CPU or if other people own them. But I'm sure it's either A)bandwith problems, B)updating or C)a virus, because it's possible to catch a virus using bittorrent. I'm sure boxtorrents will be by the end of the week, so we should probably hold out till then. If anybody knows the webmaster, try e-mailing him.

-- (godgundam10@comcast.net), June 29, 2004.

It seems that Boxtorrents is down just temporarily. I've actually looked up stuff about Bittorrent and ADV, but I haven't found anything in the news about the site or any other bittorrent site being shut down. Not yet anyway. So if we wait a little way, maybe Thursday or Friday, we should have our site back up by then.

-- (godgundam10@comcast.net), June 29, 2004.

They are using no-ip.com for dns, for awhile I was seeing the no-ip webserver saying the site was down. Someone repointed the domain to an actual ip instead of a webfoward. So who knows whats up. Hopefully its not another crash but, after this long.. I've got a feeling its a b/w issue it being the end of the month. Tracker is down and has been down, u can't dns it.. hopefully u realize that by now :)

Heres to boxtorrents comming back first of july! -aSe

shockwave:~ # nslookup boxtorrents.com Server: firewall.lan.damnlag.net Address: 192.168.1.1

*** firewall.lan.damnlag.net can't find www.boxtorrents.com: Non- existent host/domain

looks like a dns problem. although i'm unable to access the site either with the short url. the dns for the domain also seems to be disappearing as my server in houston no longer knows of boxtorrents at all. looks like a technical issue. hopefully it's back tomorrow =).

-- jd (nospam@teletran-one.net), June 29, 2004.

humm...im kinda a good fellow there and actually..it seems liek the main box is down...even the ircd is down....seems liek maybe a system failure..which isnt a good thing >.<

-- bleh (me@me.com), June 29, 2004.

I seriously hope BoxTorrents doesn't go down permanently. It better not. I've been waiting for Trigun to finish downloading for about a month now, and it's currently on 99%. No joke. If I hear BoxTorrents is closing and not letting me finish that 1%, I will go down and take you all with me.

-- Arucard (McJag43@yahoo.com), June 29, 2004.

Somebody needs to get a hold to Box, the webmaster. Because apparently, ADV DID get to Boxtorrents and shut down it's host. Box is now looking for a new host outside the United States where ADV and the FBI can't get to him. I have possible hosts in Romania, Lativa, Russia and Taiwan. If somebody can give me Box's e-mail address, please let me know.

-- (godgundam10@comcast.net), June 29, 2004.

Did ADV get to Mirkx too? it's down with boxtorrents at the same time....

-- ZZK (blah@hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

MircX has been down for a couple of weeks now. :/

-- WyldKyss (wyldkyss@rocketmail.com), June 30, 2004.

Not mircX, mirKx.

http://www.mirkx.com/

it was the replacement site for mircx after mircx got shut down. but now mirkx is down too.

-- ZZK (blah@hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

Na na, hes talking about www.mirkx.com was like the old anime.mircx.com tracker...

-- Justin Tholl (jaguar__5@hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

Those of you who can't wait should check http://www.bobcore.com/tracker/ There seem to be most of the Boxtorrent files, I'm actually running two torrents from there on the same files I startet at boxtorrents.

-- healer (healer@xbox-torrentz.de), June 30, 2004.

try searching mirkx.com in google and then doing Cached. it will get the page to open and u can get the torrent that way. it's how im dealing w/ it when direct link to it is down. I just hope that the torrent link isnt down too like Boxtorrent is. Man this sux.!! >.<

-- Kyle Phan (piccollo7@hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

I really hope somebody was joking regarding the whole ADV and Box thing. If not, I hope that they back up somehow, someday. I do find a coincidence that alot of the bt sites are going down relatively close to one another. They do say all good things don't last forever, but still, the internet is a medium that will constantly be attacked the aristocratic fatcats involved won't be complacent until all media is purged from it, licensed or not. Ludicrous...

-- Silex (b00mer@rx-7.net), June 30, 2004.

OMG! i hope BoxTorrents are up again soon. i only had 600Mb left of my chobits download!! it has been downloading for over a week! OMGOMGOMGOMG!!! if it is down for good, i will be down for good to!!

-- fatalicus (fatalicus@hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

I really crapped my pants when I heard about BoxT getting sued.. this is the only site i have seen so far that is activly talking about it. I also have a useful email address: trans@boxtorrents.com hope i helped!

-- rachael stamper (rachaelcowell12@hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

I don't think that the FBI, or anyone else for that matter, can shutdown Boxtorrents, even if they ARE set up in the US; Nor do I think they can really sue them either. First off, they, Boxtorrents, host absolutely no files on their server, only trackers. There is nothing illegal about that, at least, not to my knowledge. Second, a large number of the animes I have seen there are not licensed in the USA yet, and those series are fair game unless whoever owns the license decides to do something to stop there distribution; it's not up to ADV or anyone else over here. It's about the Japanese companies and what they want done. But, then again, I am not all too well informed about what exactly is going on legally with Boxtorrents and ADV, that is assuming something is happening. It is fully possible that ADV is representing the Japanese companies, or something to that effect. Anyway, even with what I just said, I do not think that ADV can do anything to shutdown Boxtorrents, or build a really strong case against them. And you know, after writing this, it occurs to me... I have no friggin clue who ADV is... I'd kick myself if they were a Jap company, which I doubt they are.

-- Christopher Castaway (Dark_Rez09@Hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

i guess your right... by the way, i tried to mail trans@boxtorrents.com but the mail just bounced back, so don't think it's a valid e-mail. just hope this is all a temporary problem..

-- fatalicus (fatalicus@hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

When it first went down I attempted to go to the site, and it said that the site was down due to a temporary problem, and that it would be up in a few minutes. Then that wouldn't even load after that.

-- Jer (bung111@yahoo.com), June 30, 2004.

Something to think about, the website and tracker were hosted using the ip 68.224.178.198. If you dns that ip, it comes back to wsip-68- 224-178-198.br.no.cox.net. That looks like a cox cable modem to me, could be wrong tho. A dmca violation emailed to cox would most likely get their connection shutdown untill they replied to cox's lawyers. Dmca has no proof of guilt, however the threat works on isps.

A second thing to think about, if it is indeed a cable modem. Mabey cox caught up to the webserver finally. He/she hosting it would be using a pretty good amount of upstream along with having several ports open that could be easily found with a domain/port scan.

I highly dought they got sued, it would be a landmark lawsuit againt a bittorrent site. Take a look at suprnova, well over a million hits a day. They have many many agencies and companies on there pretending to download the torrents and recording ips. If a bit torrent tracker was to get sued, why isn't this the test case?

just my thoughts -aSe

-- ase (ase@boxtorrents.com), June 30, 2004.

Isnt there a irc channel where you could ask?

-- Arvixx (shadowrunner@madmanmail.com), June 30, 2004.

Ugh 56% of the 11 GB gundam wing series... you do not want to know how long ive been downloading that.. if i cant finish.. Ill blow up the world.

-- Chaos (blarg@bob.com), June 30, 2004.

Arvixx, the ircd for box torrents is/was hosted on the same machine as the webserver. As well as the mail server for the domain. So, unless someone knows how to reach them eaither over instant messaging or real life contact. Isn't much todo..

-- ase (ase@boxtorrentsrocks.com), June 30, 2004.

look to be perfectly honest if it is just a bandwidth issue then it will come back tomarrow so just be patient but if it is the server crashing then we might never see the site again so we should just move on in life

-- AlitaFD (Leen@wowway.com), June 30, 2004.

It will be a real tragedy if boxtorrents doesn't come back. I have only known the site for two weeks but i have already downloaded 11.9 Gigs of goodness from the site. I was lucky enough to finish berserk before the site went down. I really hope it's not another ADV problem. Every two minutes i try to connect to boxtorrents, but unfortunately, I can't. enough said, I'm getting blood hungry now.

-- Lord Vamp (xman9@hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

well I don't know about a irc channel for boxtorrents... but ADV is one of quite a few anime liscencing companies.. I seriously doubt that they would bother to go after all of boxtorrents.. if anything they would request that their releases be removed.. that's my idea.. hope that helps...

-- (ice_dragon289@yahoo.ca), June 30, 2004.

Stop trying to justify stealing licensed series, its fuckin pitiful...

Yes I download both licensed and unlicensed....I also buy licensed stuff...

-- Ga (Fark@homtmail.com), June 30, 2004.

Just an update, the ircd was brought back today. Here is what i found out.. [DeltaQ] is currently hostless, ADV scared the old one away. Box needs hosting for a new site. If Box says he has bought a new harddrive we all know what happened. So plz don't start asking what happened to site, its down!

Well I was thinking what part does denmark have on the issue of hosting for Boxtorrents. Because I was thinking of if www.b-one.dk could host BT-sites, like in Taiwan, would it not be the best place. In denmark allmost nobody knows anything about BitTorrents at all. And the only company lookinging for "pirates" is the danish APG (anti pirate group), and the have just started investigating Kazaa user ONLY.

well correct me if I have totaly misunderstand the situation of BoxTorrents prob, because Im all new of this matter.

(BoxTorrents gotta live on.. I got a 5 gib GITS - SAC 1st season at 98,7 % that I have been downlaoding for a month now... DAMN! this shit!!)

-- Rivet (uglygoth2001@yahoo.com), June 30, 2004.

Does anybody have the torrent for Sister Princess season 1? If so, please send it to me so I can start over.

-- (godgundam10@comcast.net), June 30, 2004.

For a description to the current crisis: ADV is a company that basically buys the right to distribute movie and anime titles. Which means they're the ones who solely own the rights to sell or give away copies of titles they have licensed. They threatened the host of boxtorrents, not the actual site themselves, and the host back down and refuse to host the boxtorrents site on their server. Using the case that BT does not host the actual file and only links others to the files will not work. If that statement can persuade the judge, then the sharman network which Kazaa and Imesh uses would not get shut down, because kazaa merely 'links' people to other people who has a share folder.

-- ubb (demonreaper73@hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

Wait, Let me get this straight. Boxtorrents is down becuase of ADV, and now you need new hosts? Man...how long will it take to find new ones?

-- Adam MacK (shiggy11@hotmail.com), June 30, 2004.

wow, found a forum concerning boxtorrents...hmm, concerning boxtorrents, I did a check on who is hosting it, and (1) it is in YEMEN and (2) the owner is from the UK. Other than that, I don't know if they could have been shut-down some how. Anyone asked or emailed ragna the admin of boxtorrents of late? I usually saw his email listed but I don't know what it is since I never thought of jotting it down.

Damn, I was just shy of 140MB to finish my 4.2GIG download of FMA!!! 99% till the tracker did no more...damn damn...

-- AndNope ThatsnotmyEmail (cm007@yahoo.com), June 30, 2004.

correction... the registrant was done through the Republic of YEMEN. Found another tidbit...the host servers are in CANADA, Toronto.

-- AndNope ThatsnotmyEmail (cm007@yahoo.com), June 30, 2004.

So is Box-T Down for good ur what then ????????

-- Misato001 (SpaceCowBoy991@aol.com), June 30, 2004.

Man after i made room for Berserk they go away. I really hope they come back i got 40% of the series. if anyone finds more info i would apreciate an email.

-- Final Calibur (rafael21@verizon.net), July 01, 2004.

Thats insane, if it was not for boxtorrents i would not have 1/2 the anime i do now(dvds)!

The only way i even new what ones are good and i like and what ones are not is because of it! This is insane.

And good news i was just able to connect to the tracker, very FEW seeds and peers, but it looks like its still in a state of going up/down. No idea how, but my torrents started again and stoped complaing about not being able to find it. However when i try to get to the tracker in IE it says the same old dns error.

-- James (jess-e@shaw.ca), July 01, 2004.

i got a suggestion: all who want BoxTorrents back online, go out on the net and help them find a host that is willing to host them!! we are all fighting for a common goal!! BoxTorrents need our help!!

-- fatalicus (fatalicus@hotmail.com), July 01, 2004.

correction: after i posted my last post, i went to #boxtorrents on mirc. they have found a new host!! they are planing to open the site on the new host in four (4) days!!! :-)

-- fatalicus (fatalicus@hotmail.com), July 01, 2004.

Yay! ....Four dayyyyyyzzzzz... counting.. lolz...

-- AndNope ThatsnotmyEmail (cm007@yahoo.com), July 01, 2004.

it seems that recently all of the best sites have been getting shut down... only a few months ago SR got slammed, and now Box. but it really looks like most of these sites have decent arguments as being sites that contain links and not the files themselves. unfortunately the american government (being full of pricks with apparently nothing better to do) will find some stupid little thing to make the sites go permanantly down.

i heard about a idea to put a website over a network like thing; like a buncha people would have parts or all of it, sorta like seeding it. i think there's a project running somewhere for ED2K links anyway. prolly can find out about it at www.respectp2p.org . sounds like a good idea anyway... it would really take some doing to shut down a system that worked like that.

anyway good luck to Box in finding a new host! im like 13% into boogiepop and im a pretty regular seeder there (gundam x and sailormoon :P).

-- pAtch (zipline316@yahoo.com), July 01, 2004.

-- Louis Chang (shaddy@yeayea.com), July 01, 2004.

They could also open a hub in DC++. That way people could share what they've DLed in case they can't normally seed, and then it'd be like a backup if the site ever went down again. AND it'd be a lot easier than navigating VGM Central, because everything from bittorrent sites comes all together.

IRC is a little difficult to use, and DC++ is easier (for me anyway).

-- Sammy B (vampirehunterd@aol.com), July 01, 2004.

-- LO2 (govatos@yahoo.com), July 01, 2004.

just wait 4 more days =P then the site will be back up

-- Law (Alwaysasianforever@hotmail.com), July 01, 2004.

All right people... Here's a suggestion. Let's all just wait for 4 days and see what the guys at Box can pull of, be it a b/w problem, server (technical) problem, ADV or anything else for that matter.

I also suggest to just keep your torrents running 'cause my Trigun occasionally works. and when all of this is solved I suggest we SEED, SEED our asses of just to show whomever is after BOX (or any other site)that Bittorrent WILL survive.

Bittorrent is NOT illigal. BitTorrent is purely a protocol for file transfer, like FTP and HTTP. Unlike Kazaa it has no central database of files, or search capabilities.

The BitTorrent protocol can be used to transfer illegal files, but then so can FTP and HTTP. So if the bittorrent clients are illegal, so are Internet Explorer, Netscape etc.

So when the FBI, ADV or anyone else wants to take down bittorrent sites, they can't. they should be focussing on individuals who share illigal material ( like me for instants, Trigun is licensed, I'm d/l it anyway, but I'm also buying the dvd's...)

since targeting individuals is very difficult, we'll all just have to accept that the feds and other will always pick on us, live with it.

if bittorrent dies (wich it won't, believe me) there's always going to be something new... so don't freak out. BUT DO SEED, bunch of F*CKING LEECHERS !!! This ain't Kazaa you know !!! if this keeps up Bittorrent will KILL ITSELF BECAUSE OF THE F*CKING LEECHERS, the feds won't have to stick out one finger....

(you all probably realised that the main reason for me to ask you guys to seed is 'cause I read a lot of posts form guys d/l Trigun.... I'm at 80% so i kinda need the seeds when everythiong is back to normal...)

I just heard terrible news. The BoxTorrent site is shut down and this decision is FINAL. I know, this is something you can't afford, but it's the latest update. My dad works in the goverment, he's a member of CTU. He knows exactly what is going on in LA right now. If my dad won't stop the bomb, we might all get killed, aawww!! I just got a phone call from Tony Almeida. He has new information: BOXTORRENTS WILL BE BACK AND SAYED ALI (THE BAD GUY) IS DOWN! SO, COUPLE OF DAYS AND OUR LOVELY, SMELLY BOXTORRENT WILL BE IN GOOD CONDITION.

Post Scriptum: Listen to Nightwish - Nemo. That's fantasy.

You're all worried about BT....but did you ever let your bit client upload a full torrent for more than 10 minutes ? If you want to help BT when i'll be back, SHARE/SEED!!

-- Kaneda (kaneda@msn.fr), July 01, 2004.

Well I'm new to Bit-Torrent, and I just started dling season 3 of Rurouni Kenshin, what is this talk about illegal distribution? I'm kinda confused, and I had to cancled my dl because it was hitting 0 KiB on the dl/transfer, so how do I resume it?

-- Alex (Shut_up_leave@hotmail.com), July 01, 2004.

According to google only hentai torrents are found on this link: (http://www.bobcore.com/tracker/)

Man, I hope boxtorrents comes back up soon...

Ok for those who cant wait, some of my stuff is uploadable so give me a ring if you see somthing your almost done with [cant upload them all] <> (Also if any one wants to help me, i need GunBuster) ~SeNJo

-- Senjo (Senjo72@yahoo.com), July 01, 2004.

When Boxtorrents comes back up, all of your leechers need to seed your asses off. No more heavy leechers. We need to overseed the hell out of BoxT! They talk about how it shut down because of Bandwidth. My ass. They're not gonna tell you if they're getting sued by ADV or if their Server put their tail between their legs and ran like a little scared dog. They're not gonna tell us. So everyone, just try to be as supportive as you can and keep seeding! We will not give up! And if this really is just about Bandwidth and not about ADV or getting sued or whatever, then we STILL need to seed our asses off. I don't care if you already have an episode, you download it again. FOR BOXTORRENTS! I swear, if it goes down because of leechers I will die. Well, I hope boxtorrents DOES come back up 4 days. *crosses finngers* I waiting, hoping and praying. Oh I hope so much that it comes back. I've been seeding for about 3 months now. But I just recently registered. So it can't die. If you're uploading from the site, and you're not registered, you need to get registered! Tell all your friends about BOX T too! If BOX T is in need, we're gonna help, right? So ADV can go to hell. LIVE ON BOXTORRENTS!

I'm glad I found this forum. Get this: I _just_ installed bittorent to download anime from BOX (I'm mainly after Getbackers 24 and up because the stupid anime renting guy here sold the DVD to someone.) When I saw the site wasn't working I started banging my head against the monitor thinking how stupid I was not to get to the DL sooner (I had heard about it a while ago.) I'm hoping you guys are right. If Boxtorrents doesn't come back soon I don't think my monitor would sustain the damage.

-- Sunni LaCountess (countessa2000@hotmail.com), July 01, 2004.

Glad to hear Boxtorrents is returning soon. I was at 93% of the Love Hina Special episodes when it quit on me :( ...Still got to download the manga and a few other series too.

Check out Love Hina if you haven't, seems weird for males to watch it but it's pretty good and funny.

Hope you are back soon BT. :D

GUESS WHAT ITS NOT ADV's FAULT THAT THEY HAVE TO CHARGE THAT MUCH

Do u know how much the a DVD of anime sells in japan very close to 30 dollars U.S. the japanese are hard working people and they put more effort into their animation series then america does and everything costs more their because they put forth extra effort.

Are you telling me that you think companies would TRY to give us a good deal in purchasing anime? That's what it seems like you're trying to say, but the fact is anime IS one of the most overpriced products out there. The same for all TV shows: once made, companies sell it like crazy and make millions.

But "global" (anime-fans') unrest occurs when these DVDs are SO overpriced that anime manufacturers are earning way more than fair wages. This comes down to capitalism and questioning the whole system, which does not have any relevance whatsoever to anime. The greed of profit-seeking companies is constantly growing, whether we like it or not, so what is there left to do but fight?

Hm...We could wait a few years, and maybe the price of all anime DVDs will DROP! Wow that sounds sooo likely! And we will all be a happy family.

Newsflash: this isn't Barney, we don't always get along in the world. Tolerating this heinous greed just triggers an even worse situation - if we don't act now, and wait for a few years, it may be to late to stop anime companies from charing $40 or maybe even $50 then for a DVD.

P.S. I would further accept this high price for DVDs if more of the money were actually used for good causes, such as paying underpaid employees? But unfortunately, it's not, so, as I keep saying, we have to fight it.

-- Dan Orange (danorange@hotmail.com), July 02, 2004.

You are thieves! The people who make anime and manga sees hard work and you guys just download their products without any paying! You don't respect anime, YOU guys just think that money grows in a trees! You, anime people, are just a selfish people! If you want anime, you have to BUY it, not to download! Take a lesson!

-- Flea man (kuvamies@jippii.fi), July 02, 2004.

Lets just calm down, our Boxtorrents will be back very soon and i for one am very very grateful.

-- SeNJo (senjo72@yahoo.com), July 02, 2004.

I don't know what your problem is, people. You are at least able to purchase and watch them. I would spend the money (and I do) on the few series that are published over here. It is about supporting the series you like and the companies that publish them to make these great shows available to larger audience. If you love anime you have to support them and the people who create them, this means you pay for the licensed versions.

-- Franziska Gaudeck (fgaudeck@web.de), July 02, 2004.

The problem is: These anime people here thinks that everything is free! They don't see the real side of this thing. China and Japan uses slaves to make manga and anime with 2cent/hour count, and these selfish people don't buy their stuff, they just download it! They are stupid. They have to believe and if they want anime, they have to BUY it! You can't steal!

-- Hiku (kuvia@jippii.fi), July 02, 2004.

The Amount of Anime that is created each year is a large amount (example lets just say 1000) and out of that 1000 how much is licensed in the U.S.A. about 20% leaving another 80% un-licensed and un subbed. So tell me do you think I should have to spend a shit load of money and time to learn Japanese and then spend tons of money ordering them and they aren’t even subbed in English No I think not. But I do agree that it is wrong to dl something that is licensed but hey I’m not about to buy a DVD that sucks because of the fact that some companies butcher the anime also I’m not about to buy a un-subbed anime from Japan that I can't even understand. The point I am trying to make is that un-American licensed anime is up for grabs.

P.S. You know it can take many years for an anime that was made back in 1990 9example) years to be licensed and hell some of the good ones like Hunter X Hunter or Naruto (for this one I don’t count it as being licensed when the company plans to butcher it and make it for little kids) years to be licensed if at all.

And that’s my 2cents (and I will be saying more later on when I get back from work tomarow)

-- Humm what to put (unknow@theone.net), July 02, 2004.

China and Japan uses slaves to make manga and anime with 2cent/hour count

Got proof for that

-- Why do you even bother (d@d.com), July 02, 2004.

Sorry, but that is true. I know, the truth hurts. Using slaves is obvious! Just look at the quality of manga in present. It sucks. China is so weak global organization, and Japan, too, that they have to use illegal ways to product something which raises their bad economy level. You just can't see the real thing, man. You selfish NERDS just think that money grows in trees! Get a life.

-- Hiku (kuvia@jippii.fi), July 02, 2004.

G, P, or whatever letter you're going to call yourself next, I agree with you somewhat, but your point comes across much better if you use punctuation, restrict capitals to the beginning of your sentances, and refrain from saying "fucking" all the time.

Believe it or not, anime does actually cost alot to licence and translate. American companies don't pay royalties to the people who make the anime, it's one big fee right up front. The high price on most anime is quite justified when it first comes out, the American companies need to recoup thier costs. The licencing compaines do occaisionally try to give comsumers a break when they can, though.

Let's take Invader Zim for example. Anime Works bought the rights to publish Zim on DVD from Nickelodeon, because Nick has no idea of how to go about releasing a series on DVD. Nick charged them a much more reasonable fee than they're used to paying to Japanese companies. So what do we get? Volume 1 is 9 episodes on 2 DVDs for $25 (20 for me, cause I bought it at ACen :P). There's going to be two more volumes, so the entire series is going to cost $75 when it's all out. I'd say that's pretty reasonable, considering Zim was the most expensive series Nick has ever made.

Unless an anime becomes as popular as Eva, Trigun, or Cowboy Bebop, it will sometimes get put in a single box for a reasonable price. Check out Steel Angel Kurumi, Sorcerer Hunters, Magic Users Club!, and Revolutionary Girl Utena. I've seen Kurumi for $50 for both seasons at best buy, and the other boxes for $80 at Suncoast.

Having said all that however, there is a concept which G/P/whoever doesn't seem to grasp: Scarcity. Most of us don't have the money to buy all the animes that look interesting to us. Anime is expensive, so I'd like to know that what I'm buying is worth watching multiple times before I pay for it. I've downloaded quite a few animes that I liked, but not enough to watch it again more than maybe once every year or two. I simply delete them. When a series comes along that I do want to watch over and over again, I buy it. Downloading anime for most people I know is like test-driving a car. Morally, it's just fine as long as you'll buy it if it proves itself worth your money. If you download a series that you love and never pay for it, then G/P/whatshisnuts is right, you're no better than a shoplifter.

-- Falcontyr (stalker@usa.com), July 02, 2004.

1) If its a good series, I buy. If its a crap ass series I don't buy. Not all the licensed anime thats obtainable is possible to be rented in stores for me to preview. 2) If the company royaly rips it up for censorship reason or mutilates the translation or hires horrid voice dubbers then it's not worth paying. If its a good anime, and it doesn't get turned into a piece of shit via companies then Ill buy. If it is horrid then Ill pick the fansub stuff even if it is licensed. Quality is what I want and quality is what I get even if it is licensed. They want my money? Then they have to make sure the quality of the movie is top notch.

-- D.K (what@ever.com), July 02, 2004.

The BT phenomenon works much like Napster did. Yes, we're sharing. Yes, it's free. But does it mean we're all cheap ass leechers who won't put our money where our mouth is? NO. Like Napster did for music, BT is letting this section of downloaders taste new anime, old anime, licensed and unlicensed. And YES, some of these people are 14 and can't afford to buy DVD's, and are satisfied with low resolution cartoons that can only be watched on their monitor. To them, it's great.

But I know I'm not in a teeny tiny minority of people that download it, say "Hey, ____ is great. I want a copy to keep now," and we go out and BUY the DVD. Not even just one dvd, but the whole series. And that sometimes spawns related purchases. You know, something like "Well the guy that did Lain was awesome, so maybe his Niea under 7 will be cool too, I'll go ahead and buy the first dvd of that and see."

Yes, we know anime's not cheap. But hell, anime dvd's aren't the only ones that seem overpriced when compared to your generic American movies. I really want to own Farscape, but I still know anime that's cheaper to buy!! Also, half of the people here don't realize that yen-to-US prices, our DVD's of anime tend to be cheaper than the original Japanese versions still.

YES, they cost a lot. But is it worth it to be able to watch Overfiend over and over? Some will say yes. Some will say no, but Chobits is worth it's weight in gold. We all have our preferences, but in the end, not eveyone that downloads are bums. We DO give back to the industry. And for those of you who ae unclear, Boxtorrents also offers unlicensed fansubs - which aren't taking money away from anyone until the anime is put out there to purchase.

Hell, why don't you all just stick to animesuki.com so that Alphabet Man can stop having a coronary? ;)

This is very close to my own way of thinking as well. I simply can't afford to buy everything that comes out and a few years ago when I tried to purchase based upon my first impression or through recommendations I was usually left disappointed. Nowadays I often check out the series by downloading it first and then try to support the ones I really like by paying for the actual product. I'd encourage people to try to do the same thing. Sure check out what you buy before you buy it or if it's not available to purchase in a language you're familiar with, but also try to support your favourites. This isn't the fatcat, extremely corrupted, greedy and overpaid music business or Hollywood for that matter, they actually need your contribution.

Of course what really should be done in those particular areas is a far more even workpay instead of giving a few actors/producers/writers/musicians a payrate of around 100 Million USD/year each, which is absurd for people who do so extremely little for the wellbeing of humanity, but even in those cases there's always the risk that instead of taking some money from the people who don't deserve them, those people will just lower the sallaries of their employees instead. So what to do? :(

I was so upset when i found out boxtorrents was gone. i wanted to seed to others but i couldn't do so also. it's my life force to get the animes as well. i really dislike adv now. bit torrent is like the best thing on earth right now. another good idea is get a website forwarding address when you can just forward to anywhere. that way, even if the site gets cancelled, there's no problem with the forwarding site.

-- Rebecca Ha (drha@sympatico.ca), July 02, 2004.

You guys bitching about the cost of anime have another option: renting. Netflix, Greencine, and AnimeForest are three sites great for anime dvd's. I download the fansubbed stuff and rent what's already out on dvd. I put myself in massive credit card debt buying anime dvd's cuz I had to have every single great new anime. Unfortunately for my credit card, the amount of dvd's released each year keeps increasing so I just couldn't keep up. At least I'm finally spending a reasonable amount of money on anime now. I actually spent nearly a thousand dollars in one week a couple years ago. So does anyone know anything about what's going on with Boxtorrents right now or are all these posts just speculation?

According to this analysis, the writer is rebuking the download of anime through programs such as bittorrent and kazaa while neglegent of the scandalous mistreatments anime companies are adding to. So shoplifting overweights the horrible crime (perhaps not a crime in China or Japan) of brutally overworking employees and supplying few rewards for their efforts? Hmm..I don't think so. Before putting a stop to a minor crime such as this alleged "shoplifting", perhaps all anti-anime-downloading fanatics should publicly speak about the little pay people making anime receive for their intense jobs.

In my just-as-valuable-as-yours opinion, buying anime is only worth the money when the cash paid is used for the entire industry, rather than the bottom of the money pyramid (those "evil" CEOs like Bill Gates whose entire fortune exceeds over 60 times the money they give to charity). Anime companies, just like others, do ask for a lot of money for their work, but this money is not properly allocated upon the purchase of DVDs.

I never truly believed in capitalism. In fact, there are many laws I still think need to be created for society itself. For instance, if people were limited to $50 million, money would be much more evenly spread out, with Gates alone instantly giving up $64 billion. Imagine the effects of even Gates' money: a major decrease in % homeless out of the entire U.S. population and many new organizations to spread money throughout the world into needy towns and villages of Northern and Western Africa, South America, as well as Southern Asia.

Then ponder the enviornmental influences this could bring about, such as a decrease in the rate of ozone depletion, which is absolutely vital in preventing the spread of skin cancer. In addition, a pricey (yet now affordable) replacement to greenhouse gases such, as CO2 (Carbon Dioxide), could be offered, and THE most major cause of Global Warming never worried about again.

Here's another useful idea greedy Americans have fought: Universal Health Care. Many people die every day due to the absence of medications and operations they cannot afford. One major cause of this is a disease called Cystic Fibrosis, which most are familiar with. Unfortunately, my brother had a 25% chance of being born with it, and with his bad luck, he has had to live with it ever since. And don't think this is an easy issue to deal with: he requires constant treatment for his respiratory (lungs), nasal (nose), bowel (unnecessary to explain), and digestive problems, which are the worst of all. With every snack, meal, and drink, pills called Ultrase are required, which are an enzyme that are the sole reason he can now digest. These pills, without Health Insurance, just the suppy of this one pill is $1000 a month, which is incredibly taxing on our supply of money. Of course, we have health insurance, which majorly decreases the cost, but it's not any better when considering the necessary vitamins, other pills, hospitalizations, and expenses for replacement pills (for when he becomes allregict to the main ones). Just recently, he had some bad luck with Cycstic Fibrosis, and he didn't poop for three days. You may find this funny, but when considering the situation from his point of view, you're a complete asshole and insensitive moron if you laugh. He was hospitalized immediately after, and permanent damage COULD have been dealt if he had not been hospitalized sooner.

But it still wasn't fun for my brother, considering what he had to withstand in the confinement of the hospital. It wasn't easy to remove this buildup of excrement, and for each method the hospital tried, my brother had to suffer. Now think about what would have happened if he couldn't see that hospital worker who saved him from this unfortunate matter, and if he had this buildup of excrement for ten days. Not only would he have been in ABSOLUTELY SEVERE pain in the "behind", but also he could have suffered unfixable damage to his digestive system, which is the least he needs.

Now, if he did not have the money for the treatment at all, he would have died. If he did have the money but just barely, his family would pay the price and suffer. I DON'T KNOW HOW I CAN EXPRESS THIS TO YOU, BUT PERHAPS YOU SHOULD STOP CRITIQUING THE PETTY CRIMES PEOPLE COMMIT AND TARGET THE REAL, HIDDEN SOURCE OF UNFAIRNESS IN THE WORLD. WHAT IS MORE WORTH FIGHTING AGAINST, THE DEATH OF INDIGENT, HAPLESS PEOPLE, OR THE ILLEGAL DOWNLOAD OF TV SHOWS?

The aforesaid ideas are socialistic, and not capitalistic, which furtherly proves my hate for capitalistic societies (in part). The alleged "Survival Of The Fittest" is no more than a falsity, for homeless people have the same IQs as normal people, yet they cannot receive the educations to put them to full use. (Just because someone is poor does not mean they are stupid! Homeless people speaking without clarity, advanced vocabulary, or proper sentence structure does not constitute insults directed toward them or condescending views.)

Wow...I think I went a little off track, but that's definitely not the point. It's not like WE are totally greedy, and that WE are the true causes of a could-be-better society. Don't assume that we are bad people just because of the vision you picture in your minds about us being evil, company-hating people. The real targets are the people with fortunes in the billions (or high millions), such as CEOs of anime industries.

What more is there to say? Omg where did all my time go...sigh...I was going to watch a movie. As everyone, I hope boxtorrents come back soon, OR I SWEAR I'LL KILL MYSELF..................jk

-- Dan Orange (danorange@hotmail.com), July 02, 2004.

The address of http://www.boxtorrents.tk sounds genuine to me...

Notice that if you type "www.boxtorrents.com" you end up on a website selling "webnames" stating that this domain has been sold..

It will probably be used by "entrepreneurs" to sell their legal/illegal animes..

A bit like what happened to NOATED.COM- strictly a commercial site now selling legit(!) animes and zero infos..

About prices of animes- you will always get stallwarts maintaining that animes are a luxury item and thus you ought to pay big bucks..

If anyone has latest infos on how the Japanese/Korean downloading ventures will go this coming Fall ,please do post it here..

In a nutshell-some Japanese companies have reached an agreement with certain Korean companies and they will sell animes via the NET- one will pay the equivalent of $1.00 US or so per anime episodes.

They will be in partnership with Microsoft using the WMPlayer files/medium as I understood it..

Remember - Korea now has high speed access internet at cheap(?) prices in over +80% of the country..

So how soon can we see same thing over here ?

My contention is that there ought to be 2 set of prices - for one for subbed and one for dubbed

And prices(in US) ought to be $0.50 per subbed anime(per eps) and $1.00 per dubbed animes per episodes..And if you buy a complete series prices could fall to $0.25 per eps (subbed- $0.50 ,dubbed animes

An example here- take a series called Naruto-at such prices pirates would find it unprofitable to operate on a large scale..Also a kid asking pop/mom $0.50 per week to view his latest NARUTO eps..,next to zero drain on the parents'wallet..

And we,anime fans would get the real thing, not the Americanized/sometimes censored versions ...

Mangas in the USA took off as soon as one publisher started pricing them at $.95 per volume in lieu of $12.95 and over- now next to all publishers of mangas in the USA are pricing them at $9.95..except for certain series..

Finally companies selling animes over the NET via downloading would make much more $$$ as intermediaries would not cut into their profit margins..

If it is owned by ADV then yes it does apply.

Like I said i have heard from the admin he said that basically it is all taken care of now. They have a new host and they will have all torrents they had before except for ADV lienced things. Also they may not have hentai since there new host does not like adult content.

So don't worry BT will be back up in awhile with minor differences

"actually the hentai looks to be allowed so all you filthly little pervs out there can still get it"

- Box

Looks like you people will be able to get your 'fix' ;)

-- Sinklower (sinklowerfakeemail@yahoo.com), July 02, 2004.

It doesn't really bother me about the ADV thing.. I checked out that link, and I already have the two animes from the list I wanted. The rest I don't care about. It's just too bad that I can't check my ratio, I uploaded a lot with FoR, so I want to see the results. Not in a major hurry to download anything else, I'm getting BB from a friend on a different program, not BitTorrent. It has given me time to transfer some things to my larger HD, mostly music. I was starting to run low, only 30GB was left. I can wait..

-- Gekkani (kokuei_gekkani@yahoo.com), July 02, 2004.

Can I download Sister Princess? I was at 80% when this happened. I must have Sister Princess!!!

-- (godgundam10@comcast.net), July 02, 2004.

any news on when the tracker will be back up? if that's up i assume we can start seeding again specially if they are keeping the old torrent files ..

-- D (delphinab@hotmail.com), July 02, 2004.

I already said they will try to have it up by the end of this week but it might be sooner or later

do not go buy that 4 day crap or you might just dissapoint yourself

-- finalcalibur (finalcalibur2000@yahoo.com), July 02, 2004.

Bad news. ADV has Sister Princess season 1. After I'm done here, I'm going to shout some profanities. But all is not lost for me or ADV anime fans. I start working next month. I'll be making about $900 a month, and I'll be able to spend maybe $300 a month on anime. I know of a great site where you can buy anime really cheap. Check out www.uln.com or www.bestprices.com(they're the same site) ADV's stuff is really cheap. Happy Lesson, Full Metal Panic and Azumanga Daioh(just to name a few) and averages $17-18 a DVD. The Blue Seed 4 disc Boxset is $34.35. And Evangelion's 8 disc boxset is only $101 compare to $170 for retail(luckily I DLed it in time).

-- (godgundam10@comcast.net), July 02, 2004.

Ha!

Ok, I'm sorry, but I'm terribly amused. NOTHING on my "to download" list was covered by ADV. ;)

-- WK (wk@wk.net), July 03, 2004.

I know this is off topic but i just had to say this, usually the best place to check for prices on dvds is dvdpricesearch.com . Just go there and find the best price, that way you don't have to go to bestprices and maybe get the best price.

-- me (yojimbothe3rd@hotmail.com), July 03, 2004.

Ok every body, WE all shoud contribute to Boxtorrent and BE gratefull, to all the seeaders and the people that make boxtorrent happen, i'm from mexico and have verry little means of getting new series, torrents are the best thing on the internet and are kept alive by us. so.. PLEASE SEED.

-- Dante Rodriguez (corn@corn.com), July 03, 2004.

Everyone who is nagging other people to seed needs to give it a rest. Quite frankly, Box is one of the ONLY bittorrent sites I've ever been to that has regular seeding on most if not all of their torrents. The people are doing their jobs, okay.

-- Sammy B (vampirehunterd@aol.com), July 03, 2004.

awwww man ><;; oh well Jing was the only ADV title I was going at (10% in, meh) but I already have volume 1 of the dvd...now to figure a way to get it for a good price...

yay for boxtorrents ^^ I only found the place like 2 weeks ago xD

-- Laenavesse (laenavesse@hotmail.com), July 03, 2004.

I was reading the posts form the last few days and was very surprised at how many people really cared about Boxtorrents. I had been away from anime for the last few weeks - school, RL, Etc. And I came back to find it down and I found this forum. What makes me mad is that there are flamers of Boxtorrents in here, the title of this forum is Worried About Boxtorrents, not I Hate Boxtorrents or whatever. If you really hate us D/L people, then go make your own F'ing forum. I for oen am glad that it will soon be back up. Unfortunately, I won't be back at my home computer for another 2 weeks..... LOL oh well, I hope everything works out for you people and then for me when I get back.

-- JustAGuy (Whatever@whatever.com), July 03, 2004.

its not a one time fee they will keep the money for next months payment. The anime isn't gonna cost anything but if you want you can donate.

-- FC (rafael21@verizon.net), July 04, 2004.

-- someone else (henry_Hw2002@hotmail.com), July 04, 2004.

"I never truly believed in capitalism. " - Dan Orange

It's true that the homeless people will be supplied with a shelter that has an actual roof, and they can afford water and electricity bills with the money given to them, but how long is that going to last? When the money they use runs out there needs to be more monetary supply, what are you going to do then, transfer more money that Gates earned and feed it to those homeless people? Pouring in a bunch of money will not help if they can't earn the money themselves and live on. All you're really suggesting is something akin to communism, because everyone's wages are equal they have no motivation to work hard, similar thing can happen if your suggestion gets put into action. You'll have homeless people who did nothing and is able to live comfortably, granted some of them might have a guilty conscience and start hunting for jobs, but it'd be safe to assume that most will just leech off the money given to them.

"And prices(in US) ought to be $0.50 per subbed anime(per eps) and $1.00 per dubbed animes per episodes..And if you buy a complete series prices could fall to $0.25 per eps (subbed- $0.50 ,dubbed animes An example here- take a series called Naruto-at such prices pirates would find it unprofitable to operate on a large scale..Also a kid asking pop/mom $0.50 per week to view his latest NARUTO eps..,next to zero drain on the parents'wallet.. " - ryb

That won't do anything, pirates will just not be able to profit, but 50 cents an episode still means that the distribution company is losing money, no different than people not buying the legit dvds for $30.

to you guys who think that downloading anime is a very bad thing: i agree with the fakt that it is illegal, and that it shouldn't be done. but hink of it this way: i live in norway, and the only way i have to get anime is either download it from the net, or import it from the U.S. or the UK, if i am to get it in a language that i understand. if i choose to import it it will cost me one hell of alot of money. more that you pay when you just go to the store and buy it there... then i whan't you to consider this, and say what you mean now.

-- fatalicus (fatalicus@hotmail.com), July 05, 2004.

Yea i am from Mexico and also it's verry hard to find anime on stores and if your lucky you may find an ova or 2 but will never find a complete series... and it will cost an eyeball and a leg..LOL.. and I don't get paid dollars on my job so ... all we third world countrys have to bare not to have anime stores... :( but thanx to sites like boxtorrents we can find anime that other wise whould never cross the continent... thanx dudes.....

-- Dante Rodriguez (corn@corn.com), July 05, 2004.

though i live in the US there really arent any plaves to buy anime series yea i could get akira and a fwe others but for the most part ive got to travel by car for like two hours to go to get any anime movies (that are good)i dont really mind buying them for the 25$ but i dont have a car and my cash flow isint that great. i think that if they(ADV and other co.'s)stoped asking for a pint of virgin blood for 5 eps then mabe there might be a chance that i would buy it but thens theres the transportation problem... Yea i have more acess thean the guy from finland and probably the guy from mexico, but it's still a apin in the ass to get any anime series anywhere... again thoug i dont mind the fact that it could take me uo to two hours to get an anime dvd parting with the 35-30$ is kind of a pain when you are thinking of getting the whole series... just think what it might cost to make these dvd's hmm $0.30 and the case oh yea mabe $0.50 and give around 2-5 bucks to the people that drew it and that crap Grand total =$8 (and thats being generous!!!). so in closing i think that paying $60-70 for a series isint uneasonable but +$180 nah. i mean that average prive for a dvd is 20$ right... and the average anime seriesdvd is 25+ right, so when the average anime series dvd is 125 minuts then a dvd is 2-1/2 hrs about 25 minutes in difference. the dvd costs millions to produce and tehy rake it all in after the release.. so what about the anime how much could it cost to produce it (mebe it isint so unreasonable cuz it is never in thearters) in the end theyre inflated to more thatn half their actual reasonable value... it's bullshit to say that its unfair to the artisans and the actors but in the end they never get that much of a payoff so who gets all the money... the artists dont so who does? THE EXECTS DO an artist is normally poor but he does it for the love of art. and when they get "involved with bandai and other corps. in the end they never get a great payoff compared to the company that distributes them. i dont mean to be raggin on Bandai but its the first thing that came to mind...

I typed too much (mind Dump)

-- Brian (Neoatomica@earthlink.net), July 05, 2004.

Why is the tracker still not working? Box said he'd have it up today! Is he having more problems? And do I HAVE TO donate before I can enter the site again?

-- (godgundam10@comcast.net), July 05, 2004.

You people need to have your eyes checked. Box never said he would have the tracker up today he said he might. Here is some advice before you type, stop, read then type.

Really people first it was the four day thing "the site will be up in four days" crap now its this.

About the donations another time you need to stop and read. Box said Donations are appriceated but not required. If you look at his tk site only 4 people donated and he had to return 3.

So to everyone out there please just wait it will be in when its ready no sooner or later.

-- FC (rafael21@verizon.net), July 05, 2004.

godgundam.... you deserver to be drawn and quartered.... it takes a lot of work to run a site let alone a site of such magnitude so take a breath and have some patience... and plz o plz don't bitch about donating you tight git... tithe ur milk money and donar a few rubles... god knows box and his crew deserve it

-- (feynman_1774@yahoo.com), July 05, 2004.

For Christ's sake! DO NOT bite my head off! It's not that I don't want to donate, it's that I don't have a credit card to use Paypal.

-- (godgundam10@comcast.net), July 05, 2004.

If I recall correctly a debit card also works, so you only really need a checking account.

-- ubb (demonreaper73@hotmail.com), July 05, 2004.

what if you have neither?...i wonder if they take cash..xD(jk) i wouldnt mind donating my own money to box since box has been a huge savior to my anime problems...buh i do wish those flamers would stop complaining...its not like the japanese and american anime companies are all gonna collapes because a fans of theirs are dling their work. iono about how the artist really are, buh personally i would rather have ppl love my work, enjoy and watch it, than complain about it and make money off of their anger...buh then again thats me :) anyways im here to praise box and that anytime in the near future when they are back up, ill be there to support them all the way...so SEED PPL...yall can do that without a cred card or checking account xD

-- crazed rabbit (crazyrabbit87@hotmail.com), July 06, 2004.

Anime studios don't get any money from DVD sales for the most part. They only get fixed amount payed for airing eps on TV.

So if you are buying TV series on dvd, then all your money go to ADV :-)

Buy your anime! Support ADV, 4Kids and others!

-- bleh (a@b.c), July 06, 2004.

You fuck buckets are full of horse shit. You all know damn well you go to boxtorrents because you can get free Anime and that's it. Stop the bullshit saying how we should pay for the Anime. If you and I can get it for free, we will. You all know that, so stop pretending by trying to say "no but if I really like the series I will go out and buy it" - that's fucking bullshit.

-- Kenshin (kenshin2@yahoo.com), July 06, 2004.

At least some other sites are taking up where boxtorrent left many hanging dry..

But BOXTORRENTS was just about anime while most other BT sites have lotsa of other stuff but atre low on animes.

Sites like boxtorrents et al are doing a community service- helping to bring down prices..

Of course,in Japan prices for anime dvd are around $50 US or so usually for 1 or 2 eps as I understand it..

I am pretty sure that as Japanese discover BT you will see a price reduction there also..

Before the Net prices for anime of VHS could go well go over $50-$60 per 1-3 eps ,especially if it was hentai..

Finally because of BT sites like boxtorrents, suprnova, org etc.. ADV,Funimation, etc are trying to shut them down because they cut into their execs bonuses..(!)

If it were not for fansubbers aniems would still be a curiosity in Norht America..

However- all of the above underscore the fact that US companies are now more than ever involved into the production, financing, licensing of Japanese series still in being made...

So series like DanDoh,Monkey Turn, etc still going on in Japan have recently been lincensed thus most US fansubbers are dropping them thus...

Yup,we are left with groups specialising now in "classic animes" from the 80's and early 90' that have little chance of ever being licensed..

To those that defend ADV et al- they area bunch of hypocrites- they go after fansubbers and BT sites like Boxtorrents but leave the pirates/bootleggers on eBay prosper..

Maybe they prefer that the unwary buyer get crappy copies in Chinmese english to good and free fansubbed series...

ryb...

-- ryb (remi-yves@sympatico.ca), July 06, 2004.

kenshin, not everyone is is a tight greedy f**ker alot of people do buy the anime if they like it but with prices being so high its abig risk to take if youve not seen it, i paid $200 for the whole chobits series with special edition box, not something i would have paid for had i not downloaded and seen it.....

-- Box (box@boxtorrents.com), July 06, 2004.

KESHIN YOU son of a fuck Do you work with anime distributors? not everyone hes the luxury of having cash rain on them which is one of the things that are needed to buy anime series. Jesus you must have cash flowing out your ass boxtorrents are needed not everyone uses them the Distribution co.'s blow up the prices till they reach the absolute limit that the customer will pay, guess whats thats called CAPITOLISIM the average product that you buy is around 3x the actual cost of production and shipping and when it comes to cd/dvd's its nearly 20x the initila production cost that's around hmm if the dvd and the case cost around 1$ and the case and printed sheet granted around 1$ aswell so making th entire product waoud embe be 3 dollars ( the extra $ is for the give and take factor)now charging 25$-30$ for that same product hmm now paying 25-30 for a product thats 3$ in actuality.........now i could allow 5 $ for artisans but THATS just to fuckin much check the production cost to purchace cost yea at best its a 3:1 ratio THAT IS A LOAD OF SHIT. if the cost was justified then yea we'd buy the dvds for ten bucks for 5 eps but that isint gonna happen so ill dl all daf as of now. the solution to lower the cost to 10$ wouldnet stop the torrents but it would lower the dl/buy ration a little. it wouldent hurt them to drop the prices at all. thats all i have to say.

-- Brian (Neoatomica@aol.com), July 06, 2004.

just so you dont think that i'v been sucking up to box ive got about 4 other entries about the actual cost of Anime and its production.

-- Brian (Neoatomica@aol.com), July 06, 2004.

Kenshin, just because YOU are too cheap to buy anime, it doesn't mean you're a shining example of this bunch. Most of us have and do support the industry to some degree or another at least. Get off you ass and go buy a damn disk once a year.

-- WK (wk@wk.net), July 07, 2004.

Wk you've got a good point, yes its good that boxtorrents exist but as you said there is a point to buy anime dvd's granted regardless of torrents it isint that much, but dont be cheep, buy a dvd for every five or so series you dl use your judgement (id suggest 1 dvd for every +8 series you dl). its still one hell of a rip off to Adv and other co.'s but its still being hmm... concious of the fact that your ripping them off the same way they are ripping the anime fans off... in the end it evens things out but it's still in your favor. and really dont whine about adv losing money, they've got exects and employees to do that so PlEASE dont do it for them :-)

wow i have such a distain for grammar......

http://www.boxtorrents.com/

The site has come back - well, at least some of it -, go there and read what is going on..

Direct text from Boxtorrents:

The Story So Far...

Ok, so here's what's happened. Our old host got a little notice from adv so that's gone now. New hosting has been found but this time we gotta pay for it ourselves. The new server isn't exactly what you might call cheap so donations will be optional and greatly accepted. (its been up 10 months and for best part of that donations haven't been an option as they weren't needed) don't worry, I'm not like that torrent.cx guy ;-)

How do I donate?

You can donate via the buttons below. And please stop sending credit card payments to the non credit card one. it kills me having to return donations :P Also i would like to say a big thanx to everyone who has donated. Every little helps (and the big donations have shocked me!). with all the members who have signed up if everyone were to pay 1 cent a month it would cover costs (if paypal didnt take a cut out of it anyway) (note there is no other way to donate as of yet)

we no longer have an IRC server. you can visit us at irc.rizon.net on channel #boxtorrents. as for the forums, they're back online at the usual place http://forums.boxtorrents.com

I have a question....

What a surprise ;-) Right I've had a ton of people asking the same questions so I'm going to post and answer them here:

Will I have to register again? No Will my ratio still be there Yes When will the tracker be online I cannot say yet When will the site be back Also i cannot say. these things take time Did adv shut you down? no they didn't, they simply contacted our host and told them what we were doing will adv torrents still be on site when its back? no they will not I heard a rumour that...... ignore it Right I hope i have covered everything, also a shout out to the downloadanime forums/greenspun and gamingforce forums for answering a ton of questions ppl have been asking. (yes i visit them! i see all!)

Wither boxtorrent ?

Strange but the site http://www.boxtorrents.tk is no longer on line..

But if one checks up http://www.mirkx.com and one of the latest link on July 8th it has the 1st 51 eps of Inu Yasha in English but the home page referred to indicates http://www.torrents.box .com .Thus ,has boxtorrents changed into torrentsbox.com ? And this site is presently not on-line...

It could be the case(new name change) as I found out that the name "boxtorrents.com" was indeed bought up , possibly by "anime entrepreneurs"...

It seems that as the former boxtorrents went down its domain name became somehow commercially available and it was snatched up by ???

In any event-if you have news do post it here..

Note- This reminds me of NOATED.COM whose site went ashtray and now purely a commercial site..selling animes..

The issue with the inhabitants of these indigent areas is that they do not possess the money to begin stable farming economies. With extra money, we could supply mass livestock globally to start permanent food sources where needed. We're not talking about them having modern day luxuries such as anime; before that, we need to feed them. (That's the most important thing, after all, surviving > luxuries -_-'')

Box says you need to manually change the announce URL to http://tracker.boxtorrents.com/announce.php Does anyone know how to do that? I use ABC for my client, so can someone help me?

-- (godgundam10@comcast.net), July 09, 2004.

In ABC you have to click the title, then go to Advanced Detils -> External Announce -> enter the URL -> OK -> OK (on the "Advanced Details" screen). Should work.

-- Luke P (luke1983@poczta.onet.pl), July 10, 2004.

I don't use abc, but there's another way. Use MakeTorrent to edit the torrent file and change the announce url, you can find this program at http://krypt.dyndns.org:81/torrent/maketorrent/

-- someone else (henry_hw2002@yahoo.com), July 10, 2004.

first it went back down because the site crashed because to many people where logging on it. Basically he says blame some guy that posted a link to it in that forum(which you can't go to anymore because it was merged with another thread about the same thing)the site said not to tell anyone about it since it was still had bugs.

Okay the only problem with that is blaming that one guy is wrong. From the URL that Box posted on boxtorrent.com anyone with 1/8 of a brain could figure out how to get to that site based on that URL. I did and i never saw the thread I just figured it out from the URL and i bet most people did anyway. That guy is just being used as a scapegoat.

yes i noticed a few ppl had figured out the url themselves, not hard but site could handle a couple hundred. when the links were posted in a public place like that the users flooded in and mysql crapped out. now im having to do all testing and editing on a smaller scale with only 10 ppl who know the announce url. not quite what a real life situation is going to be like but obviously theres alot of ppl out there who cannot be trusted to keep their mouths shut

and it was 2 ppl not jsut 1 ;) main page tells u that

-- box (box@boxtorrents.com), July 11, 2004.

ok ... so all i have to do right now is wait until the site back on .. ??? well ... i really want to help ... but i just dont know what to do .. i dont even know what is that announce url stuff... is there any way i can help the boxtorrents ? not even donating i can ... because i dont have any credit card or paypal ...

-- someone else (henry_hw2002@yahoo.com), July 11, 2004.

I found another person that posted the link so now its 3 and i bet more did now that i think about it. Mainly because you said you got flooded by thousands on that does post didn't get that many hits.

Are you really banning those guys that did that.

Well on another note after looking around on the site got to say the new lay out is cool. who made it? was it you?

On another thing am an anime column writer so if you ever want to add a media section to your site let me know

-- FC (rafael21@verizon.net), July 11, 2004.

You guys are full of shit if you got some grudge against me. I admit I like getting free Anime. Just because you fags buy some Anime once in a while doesn't make you right. You still get other Anime for free just like I do. As long as you're getting it for free, it's wrong, no matter how much you buy. Doesn't justify a damn thing.

-- Kenshin (kenshin2@yahoo.com), July 11, 2004.

maaann .... nobody care about me ... yo kenshin ...i wonder whats wrong with u .... i just dont understand y do u keep yelling ??

-- someone else (henry_hw2002@yahoo.com), July 12, 2004.

nobody answered you because there is nothing you can do besides donate.

So just wait.

-- FC (rafael21@verizon.net), July 12, 2004.

FORGET TO MENTION ... DO ANYBODY KNOW A GOOD BITTORENT SITE TO DOWNLOAD OST FILES ? ESPECIALLY THE NEWEST OST .. I KNOW BOXTORRENTS IS ONE OF THE BEST SITE .. BUT IT IS DOWN FOR AWHILE ... CAN ANYBODY PLEASE TELL ME ??

No dumbass box didn't take your money and runoff. The site is up but since its new it sometimes crashes sence so many people are logging on it. The torrents are up and running and don't say they are not sence i am d/l one right now. if boxtorrents.com doesn't work then use the link above i posted.

-- FC (rafael21@verizon.net), July 26, 2004.

true, dude, we saved a hell lot thanks to the kind dude that ran boxtorrents [for those of us that havent started working yet..]. what is a couple of buckx compared to everything else. [heck, would 5 bucks help? didnt have paypal here cos of some crappy reasons, afraid of getting ripped off they said...]

btw, to the creator: good job for creating the site in the first place and many thanks.

-- Myst## (thisisafakeadd@rattyadv.com), July 26, 2004.

Yeah, Thanks Box! We are all endlessly greatful (at least I know I am) for the service you do for the community.

-- Kalessin (mage_@hotmail.com), July 26, 2004.

Looks like it's down again. I can't get on it, at least. It was right in the middle of downloading an OVA too, and had to restart my computer. I got back on, intending to resume the download, and I couldn't. I even tried the TORRENT file in the Temporary Internet Files, but that didn't work.

-- Maruno (chosen_one123@hotmail.com), July 27, 2004.

The sites down again, so is the tracker.

-- Spinel (Spinal_Sun_Future_Cat@Yahoo.com), July 27, 2004.

Well to all those who oppose file sharing, they can go to hell, coz they are all stingy bastards! Burner, mp3 players and technology itself is made to be used, and used in anyway. For those who don't like the idea of sharing, well don't share your files, because you are not obliged to download any of the shared files at all. Its like your dictating how the world should be. Just back the f***k up and stop talking like you know everything. File sharing isn't going to kill anyone, its not violent. If the producers pursue something they must have a valid reason, no need to give shit n cheese to the ones who support file sharing. I'm sure that we are all capable of understanding if something happens it happens for a good reason. Kinda losing the plot of my msg, but yeh to those who don't support torrents, talk as you like, we don't care coz you aint king of the world, you don't control how the world runs, and we will continue to do as we please...long live the torrents! ^_^

-- kOoLaWe| (khaoscrew@hotmail.com), July 28, 2004.

That's BS kOoLaWe.

"Burner, mp3 players and technology itself is made to be used."

-What, so we can just shoot people too, because guns are made to be used?

"File sharing isn't going to kill anyone, its not violent."

-And that makes it ok? So I can just steal from you too, as long as I'm not violent?

"to those who don't support torrents, talk as you like, we don't care coz you aint king of the world, you don't control how the world runs, and we will continue to do as we please..."

-That's just stupid.

I'm not judging anyone, I come here when my precious boxtorrents is down too, because I want my free stuff, but you really gotta get your argumentation straightened out.

-- Nikolaj (fake-email@fake-email.de), July 28, 2004.

Ummmm.... guns are used to shoot people because that is what they are used for. Take a look at the world now, where is the USA now and what are they using to shoot people guns. you should look at your facts too.

I come here also when box is down

-- John Santhoplaies (yoparata@hotmail.com), July 28, 2004.

Eh, that doesn't really make sense... You just wrote pretty much the same thing I wrote. Maybe I have to clarify my point: kOoLaWe just claimed that mp3 stuff etc. is made to be used, and that it therefore is ok to use it for illegal stuff, then I (sarcastically of course), asked him if it was ok to illegally shoot people with guns, since the purpose of a gun is to shoot.

Didn't really think I'd have to explain that...

-- (fake-email@fake-email.de), July 28, 2004.

website and tracker still down...curses, curses!

-- Durandal (durandal@thecop.net), July 28, 2004.

DOES ANYONE KNOW A BITTORENT SITE FOR DOWNLOADING OST AND ANIME's MP3 ????

-- someone else (henry_Hw2002@hotmail.com), July 29, 2004.

Hmm, maybe boxtorrents?

It should be up again the 4th or 5th, just cool it until that time.

-- Nikolaj (fake-email@fake-email.de), July 29, 2004.

*huddles in the corner waiting for boxtorrents to be back up*..... I need a hug

-- bob (feynman_1774@yahoo.com), July 30, 2004.

For downloading anime songs: http://www.animemp3s.org/

-- None of your concern (noone@hotmail.com), July 31, 2004.

Down again, possibly? My torrent isn't working (connection refused) and the site itself seems to be down again.

-- Maruno (chosen_one123@hotmail.com), August 08, 2004.

You can only be patient with boxtorrents... they really have good stuff there (some of it i can't find elsewhere).

Advise: switch to azureus client (if your pc can handle it ;) ) so you can become a little less tracker-dependant.

-- osomarron (osomarron@hotmail.com), August 20, 2004.

up and running ok.

a little flaky but better than it was a month ago.

OMG! I'm Scared, everytime i try to go to box torrents, its not working, why do they keep "updating"? Or is it all a conspiracy? Are they really going away for good?

-- Big C (oxy_eagle@hotmail.com), August 30, 2004.

Hey there...I just noticed bt is down again. That's alright I guess, just a little concerned. I was downloading the chobits OST through them, it didn't work anymore...kind of strange - so I tried to go "find another torrent" and, well, yeah, I guess they can be dead sometimes. I'll try a while later. To new guys and gals - bt can be down occasionally (obviously), but no worries...I'm sure we'd hear about it if there was a huge breakdown.

-- Dr.ICE (magus_008@hotmail.com), August 30, 2004.

They just went down again. cant they give a warning about all their updating?

-- Nick Sigounis (Nsigounis@hotmail.com), August 31, 2004.

><; someone plz tell me y is it down again~ i dont think is another update -_-

-- Keichi Sorotome (ferleon16@aol.com), August 31, 2004.

It's the end of the month. prolly an update and maybe some bandwidth issue. prolly be back up by friday.

-- asquian (asquian@yahoo.com), August 31, 2004.

when i try to get on boxtorrents, it say

Warning: mysql_connect(): Unknown MySQL Server Host 'deltaanime.net' (1) in /home/box/public_html/include/secrets.php on line 7 Couldn't connect to server.

what does that mean?

-- alvin (lildraconboi@hotmail.com), August 31, 2004.

I'm betting its bandwith limit, i mean it is that last week of the month after all. :P

-- Crazy_8 (cgvonarb@hotmail.com), August 31, 2004.

It seems pretty clear. The rdbms server cannot be found either due to bad name resolution for deltaanime.net server, which probably isn't the case, or there isn't any network connectivity to it. In short, the database or database server itself might be down. That means the initial query for the torrent listing is bombing out the web site.

-- matt (mssoren2003@yahoo.com), August 31, 2004.

well is boxtorrents down again and for how long i still have so much i wanted to downlaod i mean they go down way to much if it's there cheap server i would be happy to donate a new to them if it would fix all the dam probs they have, and also at suprnova.org they have FMA 1-40 english sub what i want to know is i know it's english sub but is the audio jap or germen and also why do i get some much spyware when i go there.

-- jay lopez (peterguy213@aol.com), August 31, 2004.

well this sucks, it wasn't bandwith :( its still giving us that error :

Warning: mysql_connect(): Unknown MySQL Server Host 'deltaanime.net' (4) in /home/box/public_html/include/secrets.php on line 7 Couldn't connect to server.

:'( i miss boxtorrents

-- Crazy_8 (cgvonarb@hotmail.com), September 01, 2004.

Not only is the site down, the forums are down too. Is this the end?

-- GodGundam10 (godgundam10@comcast.net), September 02, 2004.

The forums are up again. And the site was up, but it's on and off. It's like that most of the time. Like my relationships...

-- GodGundam10 (godgundam10@comcast.net), September 03, 2004.

This is funny... a Box Torrents support group. :) I only wish the server was a little more stable. :(

-- Gytheran (gytheran@hotmail.com), September 03, 2004.

i am SOOOO happy, its back finally. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

-- Crazy_8 (cgvonarb@hotmail.com), September 06, 2004.

Well it looks like boxtorrents is gone for good now he said he dosen't care about it any more so it's gone i knew this would happen sooner or later well boxtorrents well be missed.

-- jay lopez (peterguy213@aol.com), September 11, 2004.

Well, that's no good. I was just about to really get stuck into it too. I'd help seed things as much as I could, because I'm soon to get an unlimited connection (at Uni). And I wanted the Ranma series so much too.

This really sucks.

-- Maruno (chosen_one123@hotmail.com), September 12, 2004.

Guys, don't worry about it. Check the latest message at www.boxtorrents.com.

( new host found. (this is it) with any luck we'll have the site back online within 24 hours and without luck, well it'll be longer You can join us on irc at #Boxtorrents@irc.deltaanime.net and forums at forums.boxtorrents.com )

I think that if Box ever gets tired of running the site, and decides to shut it down permanently, there will be an official announcement from him. Just because someone mentions a level of frustration (and I understand that he's tired of the site being up and down constantly, and people bugging him about it) it doesn't mean that he is tired of running the site. Besides, he's switching to a new host atm, so maybe the site will be smooth and stable again.

-- (yevalasvegas@hotmail.com), September 12, 2004.

Well guys you wont believe this is a another boxtorrents website i can across it but it still being worked on i guss well i think that the really boxtorrents should do something about this, this is the site boxtorrents04.com

-- jay lopez (peterguy213@aol.com), September 14, 2004.

THANK YOU !!

-- someone else (henry_hw2002@yahoo.com), September 17, 2004.

I'm sorry, I really love Boxtorrents, but if it keeps going down, I don't think I'm going to come back anymore. I know that there are tons of complications, but I'm not going to download an anime for 178 hours just to come back later and see that it wont download because the site is down. I have a pretty fast computer, but its still kinda slow so it takes a long time to download anything. I wont download anything unless I know for sure it will download all the way through. Maybe in a couple months I'll come back and try my luck. Good luck Box!

Hi everyone just wnated to know if you could tell me boxtorrents' new website because when i type www.boxtorrents.com in the url bar it doesn't work

-- Bryan Hachmann (takfujiwara86@gmail.com), October 10, 2004.

Get used to it! They're down quite a bit. It's always SHEER LUCK for me whenever I get there and find them up and runnnig. Once you get a torrent going, it's all good, but just check back at different times of the day, week and month, you'll be sure to catch 'em up sometime.

Pain in the arse, but it's worth it!

BoxTorrents is down again, possibly? Darn tracker can't connect to server, and I can't leave the thing on for a solid fortnight downloading the things. Still, only a few days left until next month... and the ISP download cap. Completely unfair. 15GB maximum per month? Hopeless.
