what the hell is a pocket rocket?

-- Tom (a_life_behind_bars2@hotmail.com), June 12, 2004.

The majority of pocket rockets have gas motors. I've checked out the razor and I think it's very possible. Don't get a weed wacker motor that is direct drive though. Make sure it has a clutch. Chainsaw motors work well too.

it is very possible. you can either use a weed wacker engine, and chainsaw engine, or a go-ped engine. but you have to make sure that it has a chain drive clutch on it. i intend to do the same myself.

how bout u just buy a go-kart or a real bike

-- blank (boo@aol.com), June 28, 2004.

My 5yr old son just got one of these for his birthday. We were looking for a way to slow it down and came up eith the following. The throtle works on magnetics. If you remove the part of the throtle that turns the bike will idle at about 5mph. That and a set of training wheels and he was on the road in no time. Thanks for the tips on adding a gas motor.

I'm thinking about buying a pocket rocket for my son;however, a friend called me and said that on the news today they were talking about the pocket rocket being dangerous and if you buy your child one it's like buying them a gun. If anyone already has one please comment on your experience with this bike and if you saw the news please let me know what they are talking about when they say the pocket rocket is dangerous.

Yea i got a Honda Minimoto elcetric pocket bike...does about 10- 12mph :-(... is there anyway in which i could up-grade the motor and batt. to make it go faster? I was thinking of an electric scooter batt. and motor, but i wasnt too sure if it would work. Any help would be appreciated! Thanx!

In reply to the question of safety. I just ordered one for my son. Anyone that compares it to buying a gun is obviously overstating things. I am more concerned about his safety on a skateboard than this bike (he's 5 and my wife let him get a little spiderman skateboard). With either though I think a helmet and pads are necessary. Also, I will probably limit the throttle at first like the earlier post recommended.

If I read the question correctly you are wanting info on how to motorize a Razor type scooter? If thats the case or you just want to see some really sweet minichoppers made from a Razor scooter and a weedeater motor check out Minichopper Information & Builders Forum at http://www.glgnetworks.com/minichoppers we have all kinds of custom minibikes and information for the home builder. I have made 3 so far using gas engines and go kart parts, they are real fun to ride also.

Did any of the fathers with 5 year old boys bother to notice that it is recommended for children at least 12 years old. Nice parenting!

Does anyone know where i can get a pocket rocket gas motor for under $100.00

-- Dick Gozina (punkrock10186@hotmail.com), August 19, 2004.

you can put on a weed wacker engine because they do have a differential clutch. works the same pretty much as a torque converter in a car with an automatic tranny.

-- Ryan K Salvesen (RiOt8668@hotmail.com), August 20, 2004.

you can use a weedwacker engine..rotiller engine..i can't spell..but newaise...about the clutch..just go to your local goped go cart store..whatever..and buy a cluth to put on the engine...i buy them all the time whenever i build my gocarts.
