I'd be careful about the warranty if it is still in effect but a Champion F306 is a recommended replacement. I've been told that the filter is a common size used on many Japanese bikes so there may be other sources. The MV filter comes with a plastic band that keeps the filter from coming loose, which is a known problem.

Yo! Daytona makes 'em filters, too. The other dude is right, the filters for MV's are common with Jap bikes. If I guess it right, they may be the same size as those found with the latest Honda Blades. Just a guess.......

Yo! You have to check the diameter of the filter, inside and out before you proceed. Check also the height of the filter, make sure these damn fits the location. Also, another helpful tip will be to check the thread (just to make sure you won't go wrong!). Don't worry, am wondering myself why they have these filter on a most unsuitable location there is. Not mentioning the Engine Number as well.....

But waht the heck, these damn bikes are beautiful!

There realy isn't any place that they could put the filter that would be any better than now, what might have helped is if the pipe routing was moved a little, but there's no room to do that either. You may have noticed, things are packed in tight......

You can use a hose clamp instead of the plastic clip that comes with the STD filter. I got a filter from my Kawasaki agents, the bike fitments listed included the W650 of all bikes......

What is your motivation to seek a non-approved filter? If it is to save a few bucks, you should first consider the implications of getting your selection wrong, i.e. a crash due to an improper seal and/or an engine failure which would not be covered under warranty. Best to stick with factory parts for piece of mind and to preserve your warranty. Even outside the warranty period, you can be more certain that you have the right part on your bike when you purchase OEM parts from offical dealers. Be sure to use the latest version filter suppied with the safety ring referenced above.

The filter from the new Honda VFR is the same as the MV.

I don't think there have been to many crashes based on the use of this oil filter.
