NOW WHAT? ORTHODOX VS . CATHOLIC BAPTISM

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I was recently engaged to a wonderful Roman Catholic man and I am Greek Orthodox. We have spoken to both the Orthodox and Catholic churches regarding the marriage ceremony and have decided to marry in the Orthodox church with a Catholic Priest there too offer his blessing of the union, so that the marriage can be accepted by both religions. Now that the marriage ceremony issue has been resolved we move on to what I believe is a more complicated issue. Children.

My fiance and I both actively practice our religions and I know that a child cannot be baptized twice but how do you determine what religion to baptize the child/children, shall we be blessed with some. If a child will be raised Catholic, for the sake of immediate communion & confirmation can that child be baptized in the Orthodox church? I realize my question may sound confusing but my concern is that communion is important and although I have attended the Catholic mass with my fiance and have no problem attending Catholic church with my future children I am not comfortable with the confirmation and communion not taking place an infancy. Can you please help shed some light on this issue. Thank You.

You should find out if your children can be baptized as Eastern Rite Catholics. This way, they would have confirmation and first communion take place at the same time, and continue to participate in communion as young children, just as in the Orthodox church.

Listen it is wrong, in my opinion to have all the sacraments at once because

Holy Eucharist- You need to be ready to take Jesus and know him before you take him Confirmation- You need to be ready to recieve the Holy Spirit, and you really need to feel you want him, so you should not get it when you are a baby and do not undersatnd.
