Pray for my family

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask Jesus : One Thread

I originally posted this prayer request at the Catholic forum here in March. Similar issues have arisen again and I am requesting your prayers for the situation.

My family is in need of your prayers at this time. I ask that you pray 3 things, to which I am sure no Christian could object: That God would...

1. show us all His Truth

2. bring peace to our home

3. empower me with strength & wisdom to be a channel through which He brings about 1 & 2

Thanks for your prayers & support. I appreciate it so much.

Emily,

I will add your intentions for your family to my prayers. May God shower His abundant and loving grace upon you all.

Emily, since I don't know the circumstances which led you to write this letter first to the Catholic Forum, then to the Ask Jesus,

This I will do, knowing Yahweh knows what is even in our deepenst thoughts:

After lighting a candle for you and your family tonight:

I will ask Yahweh our God in the name of his Son Jesus, the Christ, to bring peace to your home.

Since you want to know the truth, are you willing to live by it, even if the truth hurts? I still will pray.

As to you being the intermediary or channel trhough which this will happen, are you willing to suffer more for this? What if the truth is revealed to someone else in your family, will you accept it? I still will pray, not just you, but anyone in your family, whoever is more open to God's words, to be the light.

Elpidio said: Since you want to know the truth, are you willing to live by it, even if the truth hurts? I still will pray.

The answer is yes.

Elpidio said: As to you being the intermediary or channel trhough which this will happen, are you willing to suffer more for this?

Yes, I am willing to suffer anything for the sake of God's Truth.

Elpidio said: What if the truth is revealed to someone else in your family, will you accept it? I still will pray, not just you, but anyone in your family, whoever is more open to God's words, to be the light.

I believe that God will show (in one way or another) everyone the Truth when they sincerely seek it. The difference is whether they are deaf to it or ignore it. I suppose I could say that I hope God uses me as His instrument in showing the Truth, whatever that Truth might be. But I sure do not want to spread deception. If God shows me that I am in error in what I believe now, then I will surely accept that. But at this point I do not see that I am.

Thank you all for your prayers. Yes Elpidio, I do hope that everyone in my family will be open to God's words. I think my mom is moreso than me -- her faith and communion with God is very strong. But I cannot speak for her in requesting to be an instrument for God's purposes. That is why I ask that God use me. I believe that God wants everyone to be open for Him to use them (albeit in different ways).

Emily,

The "truth" is located in the word of God, and NOT in some organization (the Catholic Church). (See John 17:17).

-- Kevin Walker (kevinlwalker572@cs.com), May 18, 2004.

Indeed, Emily, some would say that it is located in the Church "of Christ" invented by Mr Billy-Bob Christ a few years ago. soem would also say that the Moon is made of cheese, and that the earth is flat. we must always be on our guard against such wolves in sheep's clothing.

-- Ian (ib@vertifgo.com), May 18, 2004.

I have a big white candle already burning for you since 5:00 am., Emily .

That is someting still I keep from my Catholic upbringing.

It is also, like the shew bread *(bread of the presence), in the Book of Exodus: a light(candle) must be always be burning before Yahweh. It is part of the Ark and other stuff required for the tabernacle.

For your age, you show great knowledge of scripture and patristics. Your thoughts are well formed, in a question answer type, like the Cathecism.

May Yahweh and his Son Jesus continue to guide you life in whatever you do and whatever Church you join.

Ian wrote, "Indeed, Emily, some would say that it is located in the Church "of Christ" invented by Mr Billy-Bob Christ a few years ago."

Salvation is located in the church that Christ built. Yes Ian that church IS (We don't need Bill Clinton to give us the meaning of the word is). It is His church hence it is called after Him, the church of Christ. Emily, there is NO mention of the Catholic Church in the word of God and many of their doctrines CANNOT be found in the pages of the New Testament.

Ian wrote, "soem would also say that the Moon is made of cheese, and that the earth is flat. we must always be on our guard against such wolves in sheep's clothing."

Some would also say that the Catholic Church is the TRUE Church however, those who have read the word of God can PLAINLY see that this is NOT the TRUTH.

P.S. Didn't the Catholic Church believe the world was flat contrary to what the word of God states??? Didn't they EXCOMMUNICATE those who spoke the TRUTH that the world was ROUND and revolved around the sun and not vice versa???

Maybe the Holy Spirit took a nap, Kevin.

The Church always says it is guided by the Holy Spirit. That is why it cannot err.

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 18, 2004.

Elpidio,

You wrote, "Maybe the Holy Spirit took a nap, Kevin."

Not according to John 16:13 which states, "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth;" There are NO verses in the Bible that state that there will be CONTINUING revelation from God. The Holy Spirit GUIDED the apostles into ALL TRUTH, that is why we now have the WRITTEN New Testament.

1 John 2:20-21 states the apostles were guided into ALL things hence, nothing is left to be revealed.

You wrote, "The Church always says it is guided by the Holy Spirit. That is why it cannot err."

This is another FALSE CLAIM of the Catholic Church. If they CANNOT err, then they would NOT have made this mistake. It is interesting that this FALSE doctrine of an INFALLIBLE Pope did not come into being until 1870.

-- Kevin Walker (kevinlwalker572@cs.com), May 18, 2004.

My point, Kevin: a) The Spirit took a nap, or B) The Church is not ineerant (i.e, it can err).

It is easier to prove A than B since as Catholics we have at least one guardian angel.

-- Elpidi Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 18, 2004.

No Elpidio, the Holy Spirit didn't take a nap, it LEFT the Catholic Church altogether.

-- Kevin Walker (kevinlwalker572@cs.com), May 18, 2004.

Which means Kevin that every major decision(councils, encyclicals,... )are in error.

Which means every dogma is wrong.

if that is the case, Kevin, even those dogmas the Protestants borrowed from the Catholics are wrong: Inerrancy of scripture, divinity of Christ, ...

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 18, 2004.

Elpidio,

You wrote, "Which means Kevin that every major decision(councils, encyclicals,... )are in error. Which means every dogma is wrong."

My point EXACTLY.

You continued, "if that is the case, Kevin, even those dogmas the Protestants borrowed from the Catholics are wrong: Inerrancy of scripture, divinity of Christ, ..."

No, actually the inerrance of scripture and the divinity of Christ are spoken of in God's word, one does NOT need a council to decide these are TRUE statements.

-- Kevin Walker (kevinlwalker572@cs.com), May 18, 2004.

.....but, only a council of one person. Something wrong there!

.....................

-- rod (elreyrod@yahoo.com), May 18, 2004.

Someone had to decide which books are true and which books are not. Isn't it?

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 18, 2004.

Elpidio,

God did NOT need a council to decide which books were TRUE and which were FALSE.

Rod,

I didn't say there was a "council of only one person" now did I???

-- Kevin Walker (kevinlwalker572@cs.com), May 18, 2004.

Kevin said: The "truth" is located in the word of God, and NOT in some organization (the Catholic Church). (See John 17:17).

Kevin, never in this thread did I say that "truth" is located in the Catholic Church. I asked people to pray that my family and I would be guided into the Truth. We need it desperately at this moment, so please pray for that. I'm not asking you to pray that we all become Catholic or Protestant or anything else. Please just simply pray for us to see the Truth, no matter what it might be. There is a major crisis in my family at the moment and we need God.

Thank you for your concern.

I decided to move the discussion here on the Catholic Church and Bible to this place:

-- lpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), May 18, 2004.

Thank you to all who prayed for my family and me over the last few days. Please continue to do so, as the problems are not yet resolved.

God bless,

-- Emily ("jesusfollower7@yahoo.com), May 20, 2004.

I certainly will Emily. Hang in there. Persevere. Have faith that they will be resolved in God's time.

-- Andy S ("aszmere@earthlink.net"), May 21, 2004.

The candle I lighted for you still burning, Emily.

Maybe today will burn completely.

May you and your family finally reach some sort of peace.
