I have one of those stand alone VCD recorders that works just like a vcr... i hook up the television, dvd player or camcorder to the unit and then press record....the end result is a perfect vcd copy of a dvd movie, television program or home camcorder movie !!!

http://www.dvdrhelp.com has guides that might be of help to you. Basically, you have to buy a video capture card of some kind, use it to the record the video to your PC, edit the video if you want, and finally use the video to make a DVD. This is not really a trivial process for people who haven't done it before. Decent video capture cards, like something from ATI or Hauppage, are going to cost you probably at least 110 pounds (about $200 US). If you don't have a lot of spare time to spend doing this, and the money and knowledge to buy, install and use various hardware and software packages to do this, and if you only have a few videos to convert, you might want to consider paying someone to do it for you. Read the guides at the web site I listed and think very carefully about whether this is something you really want to do or not. You might also want to consider buying a standalone DVD recorder. One of these should be just a little bit harder to use than a VCR. You would simply connect your camcorder to the DVD recorder and start recording. You won't get the kind of control over your video that recording to a PC gives you (you can set your video bit rate, edit your video, set up chapters for the DVD, etc.), but it sure would be a lot easier for an inexperienced person to get decent results.
