I'm not quite sure what the premise of this thread is, but there is something intriguing about the feel of it. I feel compelled to contribute but don't know where to begin.

-- Jim Furst (furst@flash.net), May 11, 2004.

My take on David's disapproval of my posts and behavior follows:

All the time I make my arguements and points logical and hard to refute, David steps in with calling my posts "off-topic" or something to that effect. Then, David will wiggle out of any accusations I bring towards him in regards to unfair play. This has been a continual cycle since the very first day I set foot in this forum, which later became his forum. David will make me sound like a whiney little temper tantrum kid. Ok, but, now he is calling me out to be another John F. Gecik. I will take that as a compliment , but not exactly an accurate description. John is a thousand times knowledgable of Catholicism....and that's just on one pinky.

David will answer with his side of the coin and refute everything I've said. But, to be honest, I did have a little tiff with the previous moderator over the illogical sense of his rules. I demonstrated the errors, but, like a grain of salt, I wasn't taken seriously. At least, David is a little salty-er, maybe a little because of my whiney little tantrums (as he calls them).

David. You're a great person. I admire your tenacity and staunchy faith. I would fight in your battles anyday, but you got to at least see where I stand and why I stand where I do. I'm just trying to keep the arrows straight and true with these forum "rules".

..............................

-- rod (elreyrod@yahoo.com), May 11, 2004.

Rod,

John Gecik did NOT like me very much when I was posting over in the Catholic forum.

It is very difficult to keep threads on track, especially when someone makes a comment that is off the subject and the response takes the thread further and further away from the original topic.

I really don't see what the point is of trying to keep all of the threads specifically on their topics (that is why I am not the moderator) for this job is too time consuming. But if David wants to be fair, then he needs to treat everyone the same way, no matter who they are and in this I am in complete agreement with you.

-- Kevin Walker (kevinlwalker572@cs.com), May 11, 2004.

Kevin, I agree with you.

-- Emily ("jesusfollower7@yahoo.com), May 11, 2004.

Ah! Kevin you bring joy to my life with your understanding of this forum's difficulties. It would be ideal if we could all stay on the topic and not deviate. But, man, we are only human.

As far as JFG, yes he would get me fuming at times and it was difficult to choose my words precisely. But, he did stay true to his Catholic drive. Of course, I never liked how things turned out--the discourse and bannings. And, I can't see this type of forum ever becoming similar to the other forum. This place allows for an open discussion not restricted to one doctrine or faith system. I once got banned from a Jewish forum. All I asked was, "Is the Rodriguez name Jewish in anyway?" (or something like that). Zap! I was out of there faster than you can say, "żEn donde estan mis chanclas?"

This forum could have a number of moderators with specific duties. Time will provide the answers; Tom may have opened the door.

...........................

-- rod (elreyrod@yahoo.com), May 11, 2004.

Rod,

Yes, I have been sitting in the background for much of the conversations concerning the operation of this forum because 1. As my kids say, "it is not my job", and 2. I did not care to nit-pick (I am not accusing anyone of doing this) the moderator, and 3. As Elpidio correctly stated on another thread, I pick and choose which threads to participate in...

Yes, David has had a difficult time and I think is doing a good job of being moderator although I have yet to agree with the purpose of making the forum password protected.

It is no fun to have your posts deleted, I know because that is exactly what happened over in the Catholic forum. That was ok though, because I saved all of my posts so it really did not matter if they deleted them or not.

Amen and Amen to your comment, "It would be ideal if we could all stay on the topic and not deviate. But, man, we are only human."

It is so difficult to keep on topic especially when someone makes a comment that you want to respond to and then the question becomes whether or not to created a new thread, or to go and find a thread where this topic has been discussed in the past. For those of us who have little time (or don't necessarily want to make the time) this too difficult and takes too much time. As long as it takes me most of the time to respond to someone's post, and yes I realize my posts are long however this is not deliberate, I just want to be thorough in my reply. I don't feel that taking a thread off-track is necessarily a bad thing.

I am glad that David has not wielded his banning wand more often with those he does not agree with for if this were the case, I would be the first to go...

You are not the only thorn in his side. :-)

As far as having more moderators for this forum, that is for David to decide and I for one would not even entertain the idea of assuming this responsibility.

-- Kevin Walker (kevinlwalker572@cs.com), May 11, 2004.

"I have yet to agree with the purpose of making the forum password protected" - Kevin

I don't think the forum with be going password protected that often anymore. I save every thread on the forum, and with a simple post they can be restored. I've found out how to get rid of those scripts posted by "tom" and "other toms". Except, there will times when it might be needed. Like that time Jeanie went on an outrage and posted more than 250 anti-Jewish threads. It took a LONG time to delete all that, and with her posting 10 new posts every minute, it was even harder (By the way, no one try contacting her. We don't want her visiting the forum anymore). Then, someone (neocon@yahoogroups.com) back in january started spamming the threads (destroying about 20% of the forum) with some LONG posts. I have no way of deleting his posts, so those threads are lost, but if I was able to password protect it while he was doing that we could have saved half the threads.

-- David Ortiz (cyberpunk1986@hotmail.com), May 11, 2004.

"Yes, David has had a difficult time and I think is doing a good job of being moderator although I have yet to agree with the purpose of making the forum password protected. "-Kevin

I guess you haven't been around to see the mess the "mad poster" has done. Obscenities, epileptic light shows, giant texts, window browser shut downs, kidnapped/hijacked links to unwanted websites, ruined threads, and who knows what's next have we experienced since March 26, 2004 on some kind of cyclical schedule. That's the reason for the password protection. The Catholic forum made inferences about keeping secrets about Catholicism. Elpidio and I (Ian and Jim did too, I believe) made our honesty evident in support of the security measures. That's when Laurent Lug joined this forum (I knew he would...he..he..).

........

-- rod (elreyrod@yahoo.com), May 11, 2004.

As for additional moderators, we will need a replacement on September 13th (faster if I leave sooner). I don't think you'll be able to find someone that has the time I do, but maybe 2 or 3 can be co-moderators.

-- David Ortiz (cyberpunk1986@hotmail.com), May 11, 2004.

"I have no way of deleting his posts, so those threads are lost..."-David.

But, golly gee weez, isn't it so strange that the Catholic forum was able to recover without a bat of the eye? They ignored me big time and deleted my alerts. Why? Oh Why? didn't they come to our rescue? I still smell conspiracy. I sense an inside job. I smell an angry poster who was banned and has a nicely sharpened axe and a smile.

..........

-- rod (elreyrod@yahoo.com), May 11, 2004.

Some in the Catholic forum--after the attack--made comments that this forum was password protecting itself against public view for strictly private use. Comments were made that "who knows what secrets are being told about [Catholics]" (I need to find the link). We stepped in and suggested that they (the insinuators) should email you and ask for the password so that they may see those secrets about Catholics. I did mention that this forum had Catholics fighting for the faith. It was a "put-up or shut-up" kind of deal. Laurent made it over here and saw the real truth about this forum. I'm wondering if "Andrew" was the main inquisitor. The thread will show what transpired.

Why the need for additional moderators?? And why on September 13th??? I take it that I have missed something...

I must have missed all of the light shows... The only one I remember is when Tom put all of those scripts in several threads, and I quickly turned off my computer and didn't come back on for several days because I certainly don't want to get a computer virus...

David,

I have some earlier threads saved, please let me know which ones you need to have restored and I might have them... FYI, I only saved the threads that I wrote in...

Sorry Kevin, I missed your post. I'll be leaving for Marine boot camp on September 13th, sooner if an open spot comes up. The reason for 2 or 3 moderators would be because we probably won't be able to find someone who has the time I do. 2 or 3 people might be able to share the load better, like what they are doing in the Catholic forum. After being stationed at a base, I might be able to take over or help out too, that is if whoever the replacement(s) are during that time want that. Currently [Anonymous] is helping me out by deleting malicious posts that I cannot delete because of school.

Yup, I can't see paying 20 fold more dollars for texts to download a few more seconds faster. I say have everybody just type faster and read slower. (Yes, very weak humor.)

I was thinking that the moderators remain anonymous when you select them, David. That way there duties will be done without the fear of hurting feelings. They can edit or delete incognito and then return to their poster roles without a hitch or explanation.

Rod said: I think the Catholic forum deleted those posts I mentioned earlier.

I don't think so. The reference you posted was something entirely different. I started that topic myself due to an error on one of the threads on the Catholic board (read the post above yours - it's me). I remember that incident and nothing else was said there about the password situation in that particular case (as far as I recall).

I do vaguely remember the incident you're talking about, but I searched for awhile to no avail to find it.

-- Emily ("jesusfollower7@yahoo.com), May 12, 2004.

P.S. This forum went on password after I made that post and after the attacks. I think you were right that it was around that time, but it wasn't on that thread. I know it was after I made the post because I did not have the password for this forum at the time, so I was only stopping by to read when it was public.

-- Emily ("jesusfollower7@yahoo.com), May 12, 2004.

I remember posting in two threads: the one I've linked to above and another thread. I can't find the other thread. Elpidio and I both posted in that second thread in defense of this forum. Perhaps Elpidio may have saved that thread?

Jim, Elpidio, and I were on "watch" the night of the attacks. Elpidio was searching and saving threads while I was making failed attempts to signal the moderators of the "mad poster's" doings. Suddenly, my posts were being deleted as some threads were being restored in the Catholic forum, this forum still hasn't recovered from the Feb. 26, attack. Were are still scratching our heads and raising our eyebrows.
