Election of Trustees

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

We recently had election of Officers (Trustees) at my local church and of the 18 nominees on the slate we were instructed to vote for nine of those eighteen and nine were elected. The president of our lay organization pointed out to me after the election that the pastor would "appoint" nine more Trustees to bring the total up to 18. I don't have a up-to-date Discipline and I was under the impression that Trustees are elected and not appointed. Please clarify. I know that Stewards are appointed but am unclear of the rules regarding election of Trustees.

Per Discipline, your Lay Organization President is incorrect. Trustees are elected as done by your pastor. Follow your pastor's lead on this matter.

Actually, the pastor nominates those who are up for election to the office of trustee, and then half of them are elected from that batch of nominees through a vote and then they serve a 1 year term. Stewards are appointed by the pastor for a 1 year term.
