rms stands for 'royal mail ship' this is a term that has been coined for many generations. originally it refered to a ship within the british navy that carried orders from the royalty of England to commanders in the battlefield. RMS therefore fielded a flag at the top of the crows nest which have it precidence over other ships. This term was then used as a seal of approval to all British ships which sailed and that were deemed worthy of carrying royalty.
