The F4 chain guard does not completely cover the top of the chain like most bikes. Any solutions to prevent chain lube from flying up on the bike? Are different guards available?

most oil companys make a chain wax which if sprayed on a few hours before you ride or left over night tend not to fling of the chain.i use castrol chain wax with no complaints.jason

use a chain wax then soak a cloth with wd40 and wipe off the excess - no fling - or i've heard of people using wd40 and nothing else with good results on chain life tho' you probably new to lube it more frequently

I'm also one of those WD40 only types. Try to clean with WD40 before the o-rings get dry.

A reminder for those that user WD40 as a chain lube. Whilst WD40 is a great cleaning agent for the chain, it is also a cutting agent. It will actually damage the chain and surfaces between the chain and the o-rings if used over a period of time, especially if the bike is ridden often and at higher speeds, such as on a race track. It's not a substitute for a good chain lube. The best I have used is the Motul Factory-Line Chain Lube.

Thank you. I use a chain wax too but the dark black stuff put on at my 600 mile service seems very fly offish. It got on the side of the tire too which is distrubing when it slips out in left turns.

Using chain wax a chain lasted around 11,000 miles, with constant 'fling-off' mess. On the next chain, tried the WD-40 only method. Much cleaner but chain only lasted 6,000 miles. MCN (UK) published a test a few months back on chain lubes and Wurth Dry Chain Lube came out best (by a long way). I've been using it since - no mess at all, chain always looks clean and I've hardly had to adjust the chain at all. Bill

Never found a chainlube that won't fly off yet, no matter what the manufacturers claim !

I now just paint the chain with EP90 gear oil, yes it still flies off, but its a lot easier to clean off the paintwork than sticky chain lube.

WD40 also rots rubber as well as being a cutting agent, I certainly wouldn't use it on a regular basis.

A Scottoiler is also good if you can find a way to attach it to your vacuum tubes on the injectors. once set right you only have to remember to top up the reservoir every now and then. Being an oil you will get fling of, but if you get it right, its minimal. I got 18000 miles on my ZXR 750 with one. Don't use one now though, and my chains do around the 10000 mile mark.

Guys, Use the chain lube or chain wax. Don't use WD40. I lost my chain while running in the highway at 180kph! Lucky, I didn't fly off with the chain.... There were huge trucks behind me then. Have a safe ride, MV Agostinis!
