The question above stated is both vague and controversial. 'Tis not known who is indeed the father of short story, as that title is one of reader's judgment rather than writer's mind. You can't rightfully deem someone a father unless he has a son, thus I find the question blasphemous. Although "Father of Short Story" is a metaphorical statement, it is most difficult to name the best short story writer. Althogh Edgar Allan Poe was/is among the most well-known short story and tale writers, it doesn't mean of course that he is the best. I believe firmly that you cannot be the best at something that doesn't have its own rubric.
