Resistance Welding Force

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

1)May I know the range of resistance welding force?

2)Is it different for different applications? If so, may I know it with some examples?

3)How to measure this force using transducers?May I know the complete set up for converting this force into electrical signal?

4)How to control this force to improve weld quality?

References for force values are available from publications from RWMA.org and AWS.org In a few months, we will release a book that provides many available sources as well as a procedure for setting up weld force, current, and time. Ref. www.szabopublishing.com for availability.

For measuring force, several ways are available. One is to install a pressure transducer in the air or hydraulic line that operates the weld cylinder. Another is to put a mechanical transducer in the weld cylinder. Then either value can be measured electrically and compared to a go-no-go preset value. An alarm can be initiated if a low value no-go is reached.

An alternative is to get a resistance welding force gage from TJ Snow or others and measure the force between the electrodes. Then on a periodic routine, recheck it and adjust it to keep it in a ballpark.
