Hidden Files in VCD

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have bought a VCD ALADDIN. When I see the contents of the folders MPEGAV and SEGMENT there are no files ( I have enabled Show all the files in my explorer settings and i am able to see hidden files in my hard disk ). CDI is the only folder where I can see the contents for around 2 MB. but the cd plays the movie in Standalone VCD player. In PC WinDVD plays the movie where as PowerDVD doesn't play it. VCDGear also doesn't recognise the files. But when a image of the VCD is created using Nero and ripped using VCDGear I am getting the MPEG file. How is it possible. What application is used for it.

I have seen this kind of VCDs in two more VCDs.

Nero Info Tools doesn't give any information about the application used for writing.

I have read a few posts like yours and this is my best guess. VCD piracy is a big problem in certain countries. I suspect that what happened is that your VCD was made with kind of copy protection scheme to prevent PCs from being able to read it correctly. Audio CDs are sometimes made like this in Europe so that PCs can't read them, but CD players can. It usually involves some type of hybrid disc format that causes PCs to read the disc incorrectly.

Thank you verymuch for the effort you have taken. But I have made it clear that in PC also I am able to play using WinDVD.
