.300 Win Mag recoil

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

I have recently won a Remington Model 700 in .30-06 in a shooting compitition. Because I already have a Remington Model 700 in .308 Win,I decided to upgrade it to a .300 Win Mag.I haven't fired one yet but have heard only good things about it. How bad is the recoil? I think a .308's recoil is light and I have had experience with a .375H&H and found it to be very managable. How will the .300 Win Mag with hot loads be in relation to the .308 and .375.

HI guys. My lisence finally arived on Fiday and I immediatley went and colloected my new Remington mod700 ADL synthetic.300 win mag. I went shooting on Sunday and I am already in love with this caliber.I hav'nt had time to reload yet so I got 2 boxes of PMP 220gr. factory ammo. My brand new 300 is more accurate than my 308 is with factory loads(my .308 is amazingly accurate with my handloads though).I CAN'T WAIT TO START RELOADING FOR THE .300!!!!!This rifle has the best trigger I have used on large caliber weapons. The recoil is much better than I expected it to by even with the 220gr. load. From the bench it gets a bit stiff after a couple of rounds without a break because of the light weight of the rifle(It weights in at around 7 pounds), but from the prone, kneeling and standing position it is an absolute pleasure. I CAN RECOMMEND THIS CALIBER TO ANYBODY WHO IS INTO LONG RANGE SNIPING AND TARGET SHOOTING!! Long live the .308Win and big brother the .300 WinMag!!

I'm 12 years old and I have a 300 win mag. To me it doesn't kick that bad even though I'm use to a 243. My 300 has a Limb Saver Recoil Pad and thats probably saved me. I highly reccomend one if your nervous about the recoil.

Thanks Joe! I am not afraid of a gun, it is just that I have heard from some people in this part of the world that the .300 WIN MAG is OK and others say that it kicks the living shit out of you(although the same crowd moans and bitches about the kick of my .308!!!!)Thanks for the info! Keep up the great work on this site!

Well, If you can handle a 375H&H mag i definitly think you can handle a 300 win mag. The 300 win mags recoil is around 25lbs wich is a bit more than your 30-06,and your 308. If you buy a good built 300 win mag you should be alright make sure it comes with a good recoil pad and or a muzzle brake. Shooting this rifle at the range should be fine. But after you shoot about 20 times youre gonna be sore! Well thats my imput on the 300 win mag ITS YOURE CHOICE IAM JUST GIVING YOU SOME INFO.
