Any one watch PBS's "Secrets of the Dead" on the Shroud of Turin?

I thought it was pretty good. It talks about both how a forgery could have been made, but also that the scientists cut their Carbon-14 dating sample from the edge of the cloth, which probably was contaminated because that was where people held it when it was being displayed. So, they're back to "can't prove it one way or the other".

I didn't catch much of it. Is it suspected to be a forgery of an original that's elsewhere? Or is it suspected of being fake from the very beginning? By the way, are there any authentic remains of the cross? I read somewhere it was remove from it's shrine by Muslim conquerers and was lost from there.

There was a flap a few years back when it was carbon-dated to be about from 1300-1400 AD. Recent research within a year or two, where they took pictures with special cameras, and tested for some types of bacteria were what led to them finding that their initial dating was possibly compromised. In early times, the Shroud was not of course kept in a protective case with argon gas pumped into it, but instead handled by many people.

I was even surprised to see that the person doing restorative work by hand was NOT wearing gloves.

I didn't realize that they had a show on the Shroud, but I read the article on the Shroud and Science at their website www.shroudofturin.com and it was most interesting. It pretty much gave a lot of thought provokers that lead someone to really think that this Shroud is authentic. I myself, think it is.

I myself , think it is not , just my opinion !!

I have read the links !!

So , to me , it's no proof of existance !!

PS: Sorry , but here in Europe we can't get PBS !!

Laurent

That's ironic; most PBS shows have people with European accents.

I don't exactly accept the Shroud as being proof of Christ.

Interesting question, Laurent. I don't know the answer, but I do know this article about the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano says that the body and blood of Christ both became blood type AB (the rarest of all types).

Jesus' Shroud? Recent Findings Renew Authenticity Debate

The Shroud of Turin—believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus and one of the most venerated relics of the Christian church—was declared a fake in 1988 by three independent scientific institutions. Yet interest in the cloth has remained intense, and new science suggests the shroud deserves another look. Raymond Rogers is a retired physical chemist and former leader of the explosives research and development group at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. He proposes that the samples used to date the shroud in 1988 were flawed and the experiment should be repeated. His conclusion is based on a recent chemical analysis of the shroud and previous observations made during a 1978 examination.

Rogers was one of two dozen American scientists who participated in the 1978 Shroud of Turin Research Project (STURP)—an intense five- day scientific investigation of the shroud in Turin, Italy.
