Does anyone know about old green blob top bottles?greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread |
I found an old green colored glass blobtop bottle in Burlingame, CA but is etched on the neck J. P Sjogren 313 9th St SF. It is about 7" tall and appers to be 7 or 8 ounces.

Mineral water bottle. Most were caped from the inside with a wire and stopper arrangement. I found one just last week that had no embossing, and has less value in my mind then ones that can be identified as coming from a particular sodaworks outfit. Just about every city had a bottling outfit around the turn of the century. Fun.

I dont think thats correct. The embossing looks wrong. The diamater of the neck should be about 2 inches tapering at the top to 2.5 inches then back to 2 again. This gives added grip for the drinker. It is availabe in chrome or blue bottle blue (slightly frosted)
