It's about the pricing on all of the cars.....

I've noticed and am wondering why the prices seem to vary from one car of the same make and model as to another car of the same make and model.....why?

My understanding is that while the make/model of cars does affect prices, you're right-- prices vary among cars of the same make and model, and that that's because of variations in the prices of parking spots (Back Bay vs. Brighton, covered indoor vs. not, etc.).

It is also a function of the popularity of a given location. If the spot is really popular, the useage rate will offset the extra expense of a downtown space. If the useage rate gets high enough, an extra space for a 2nd car is sought. Likewise, if the useage rate gets too low, the space is let go.

Did everyone see the Sunday Globe article on the PEZ dispenser for ZipCars? This is my idea of a beautiful future for Boston, where traffic is no longer jammed, since people only drive when necessary, which is much less often thanks to an upgraded public transit system. With a European class system, everyone would much happier to abandon car ownership in Boston, and the demand for Zipcars would require multiple PEZ towers of ZipCars around town, and it will be more important than ever to remember the name of the Zipcar you were driving (maybe there should be a tray of "business cards" on the dash of each car with the car's name on it, so you could take one with you to remind you which one will unlock for your ZipCard).
