Has the A.M.E Church Leadership or Lay produced a noteable theological treatise, book, or other writing in the last 100 years?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

I'm looking for books written by A.M.Es over the last 100 years. Can anyone help me with titles or authors?

Thanks,

In Christ

I would check-out the website, "Documenting the American South: The Church in the Southern Black Community", as it includes the full-text of several historical works by AME leaders. Here is the link: http://docsouth.unc.edu/church/index.html

Also, a number of recent bishops have written books as well. Bishop Anderson, I believe, wrote a book and I know that Bishop Nichols has. A valuable source would be brother Matthews. He is well versed on the AME Church.

Thank you Sister Jackson,

What a weath of information I got from that site! I'm still looking for more contemporary writing though, of a theological nature of someone - Bishop, Preacher, Lay, that has taken a recent measure of our zion. But I must say, the site you referred me too should be examined by all. Its got much good stuff. Thanks again.

In His Service,

Hey Jerryl -

I know its hard to be coherent when you are fighting the Sandman in the wee hours but your list omitted a book by my former pastor and current Presiding Prelate of the 19th District, Adam Jefferson Richardson :-) Also, do we include Cain Hope Felder since I understand that he is now a member of an AME Church in the DC area? I will be using your list as a source for the book club I'm proposing at my local church school. I'm thinking about naming it the Joseph Gomez (honoring the former AME Bishop) Book Club. This will be geared to literature for adults and children. Which leads me to my next question. Are you or anyone familiar with AME writers who have made literary contributions in the area of children's lit? QED

Not that it matters, Rev. Dr. Renita J. Weems is a daughter of the AME Church and she was ordained AME and was an active AME; however, she is no longer AME. Her husband, Rev. Martin L. Espinosa, is pastor of Ray of Hope Community Church in Nashville, TN. Here is a link to their photo/bios http://www.rayofhopenashville.org/ministers.html
