Please Help if you Can

Hello all,

Here in Atlanta the AJC had an article in Saturday's Edition about the Trappist Monks at Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Monastery in Conyers GA. These Monks are in the process of celebrating their 60th Anniversary in Conyers, and they need our help. There are too few new Monks coming to the Monastery, and the elderly Monks require a lot of medical attention with associated costs. For the first time in their history, they are asking for donations.

I have made several weekend retreats to this monastery, and each one was an incredible experience. The church is incredible, with a fabulous stained glass image of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit. You can feel the Presence of God in there. There is a little Chapel in the catecombs dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe where the Rosary is prayed every day. A pond on site provides a serene setting for reflection. But my most vivid memory is that of one of the Brothers, who, no matter what time I was in the Church day or night, was walking back and forth in the Church, praying the Rosary. His dedication to prayer was a true inspiration to me.

I am asking you to consider helping these Monks if you can. They have a web site, www.trappist.net, where you can learn more about the order. They also have a gift shop online as well as a store where they sell the bonsai plants they grow. If you live near or are coming to the Atlanta area, I would encourage you to make a retreat at the Abbey. I am sure any other monetary donations would be welcome as well.

This link will be available for free through March 26.

I am sure that the Monls in Conyers are not alone in their need. There are several Abbeys in the United States - if there is one near you, I would encourage you to visit and support them.

Please help if you can.

Pax et Bonum

May you, your contributions and the contributions you inspire be blessed!

It is not only the Trapists. I know that at least one order of the Franciscians are in the same kind of trouble.

It is this kind of thing that makes me feel that too many vocation driven organizations (priesthood, for example) must be in trouble.
