223 WSSM 243 WSSM more accurate than 22/250 or 6PPC

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

Hi, Would the new 223WSSM or 243 WSSM be more accurate on 100 meter than the 22/250 or 6PPC? (taking in account - same weight of bullet)

regards,

Chris

I don't have any experience with the wssm calibers yet but I have a HB Sako 6mm ppc that is the most accurate and precise rifle I have ever used. It took me a while though to figure out that I needed the Finnish produced powder to match the performance of the Sako factory ammo when reloading. I am looking hard at a 223 wssm Winchester (shadow) rifle.

Chris,

The simple answer to your question is no. I only say that because 100 metres is not the benchmark you should be using for accuracy. With the right combination of shooter/load/rifle all of these calibres should be shooting into one hole at 100 metres. 300/400/500 metres are the benchmarks you should be using. In the simplest terms long range accuracy comes from the right ratios of velocity, ballistic co- efficient, and cross-sectional density of your projectile. I'll only speak in general terms as I have only had experience with one of the calibres you mention, that is .22-250[albeit Ackley improved]and I love it. I hope that some of this is helpful. Good Luck.

Sincerely,

Chris, This is a hard one. Time will tell. Right now both of the new cartridges have teething pains, the PPC is an established cartridge right down to the barrel length 23 3/4 and flash hole size. Don.
