Slide scanner help needed please. Film too would be handy.Hello,
Rather than having about $300 of slide scanning work done for my father, I thought I would just buy a scanner myself and do the work. He wants them on a CD for viewing on a DVD player,
If you know the machine to get or where to find out please let me know.
SPEED- I don't need to do the scan job in 5 minutes and I don't want to spend a week. COST- Less than $500. $200 would even be better. QUALITY- I want to be able to crop and zoom in a little with and still have OK results.
Please help or refer me if you can.
...If there is a "best machine" out there (for the money), that's what I want.
Thank you very, very much for your time.

I presume you are talking of 35mm slides and film and not the larger formats. Frankly I don't think you will find the sort of quality and speed you want for the budget you've got. You may well have to go for a flatbed with a slide/neg adaptor because of the price but a flatbed with adaptor generally will be no match for a dedicated film scanner.Try this site to get an idea of prices. http://www.superwarehouse.com/Film_&_Slide_Scanners/c2/1908
Or better still, go to the updated version of this forum at http://www.photo-forums.com/ and go to the scanners forum.
I don't work with slides normally but I have tried scanning slides and negs with my Epson 1650 Photo and my HP Scanjet 7450c both of which are flatbed scanners with slide/neg adapters. I find that the Epson gives better results scanning photos while the HP does a better job with documents. On the other hand, the HP is easier to use.
Good luck with your shopping
