CDI watching on PC or PS2

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I've bought a few DVD videos in Ghana, and cant get them to play on my computer or Play station 2 back in the UK. I've also bought AR max for the PS2 as I heard that it allows you to watch DVD movies from all over the world but it didn't help. I know that there is something on the Cd videos, as when I've placed the disk in my DVD rom on the Pc it says files currently on the CD are CDI, Karaoke, mpegav and vcd. Can anybody help me to watch these Cd videos.

Technically you don't have DVD videos. What you have is VCDs. Any software DVD player should be able to play the VCDs on a PC, assuming they were made correctly. When you buy products on CD-R in 3rd world countries, all bets are off, but they should play on a PC if they were made correctly. You can try opening the *.DAT file(s) in the MPEGAV directory with any software DVD player if it won't automatically play them. I can't comment on your PS2 problems as I don't have one, but I know that PS2 out of the box requires a modchip to play VCD.
