greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

I have purchased 100 rounds of ultramax .308 ammunation in 168 BTHP and i was wondering why when somtimes i chamber a round it will be fine but the next one will be practicley impposible to close the bolt on, may it be bad ammo or is it jsut somthing im missing.

thanks, josh

I have seen time and time again a little too much lubricant used, making it hard to close the bolt.

Josh,

Without shooting/seeing the rifle it is impossible to tell what the problem is, regardless, you should be checking your fired brass for pressure signs. It is troubling that each and every case does not feed the same, you may want to consider changing ammo. There are to many possibilities to consider them all here, remember to check for pressure signs on your brass, ignoring that could lead to a catastrophic failure of your rifle. Consult a gunsmith if you have to, but get to the bottom of the problem. I would not suggest pulling the trigger on a round that was "practically impossible to chamber". Good Luck.

There may be a problem because the brass has been fireformed by being once fired. This even after being "re-sized" by the reloaders dies can be a little hard to chamber in some rifles that have a tight breech. If you shoot this stuff alot you may be interested in reloading your own ammo. I suggest reloading if you are not a Military or Law enforcement sniper. Reloads that you may do with the fine Sierra 168 gr BTHP match have the ability to go 1/4 moa easy with the right shooter, rifle, optics system. Mine do!

Good luck and email me with any questions....Sniper X Vaughn777@cs.com
