Is the AMEC listed as a supporter of the current political positions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

I attended a revival where the preacher stated that the AMEC was listed somewhere as a supporter of the current political position. I want to know where to find this list,if this is true, and what was the response of the AMEC.

Support of an administration and its quasi religious base is repugnant to Jesus and to the AMEC. Since assuming the throne of this country, this administration has sought a motto of,"I got mine, I'm going to keep it, going to give my dog the scrapes".

Richard Allen estabished our church so that people of color and the poor would not have to accept the scrapes of others.

If my church is supporting or in favor of policies that are against the teachings and preachings of Christ Jesus, I want to know.

If our church supports this administration and its policies, We need to loudly scream our disapproval.

I will.

Perhaps you can explain exactly what it is that Jesus finds "repugnant" about the policies of the Bush Administration? Are a majority of black people in the US suddenly homeless, unemployed and living in abject poverty as a direct consequence of the Bush Administration? Is providing prescription drug benefits to the elderly repugnant? Is providing tax cuts to middle income black households "repugnant"? Is the earned income tax credit which permits the working poor to not pay Federal taxes repugnant? Is the Adminstration's support of a ban on gay marriage, which the AMEC leadership last year supported on Biblical grounds, also repugnant? Would Jesus find it repugnant for a political position which opposed abortion on demand like the current Administration? For the most part critics of the Bush Administration base their conclusion about "repugnant" behavior due to irreconciliable differences about two things and two things only: The War against Iraq and The "War" against Affirmative Action. Reasonable people can differ in their opinion about these two issues but I don't consider either, particularly the latter, as implying they are contrary to the teaching of Jesus. Furthermore, I am unaware of any offical communique where the AMEC has endorsed the Bush Administration on anything. Since January 20, 2001, the AMEC has been non-stop in practically denouncing everything the Bush Administration has tried to do. Lastly, Richard Allen was a clergyman and his objective in founding a "new" church for Africans in America was not based on socio-political objectives (that was the purpose of the FAS) but instead on religious freedom principles. Too often when we are deifying Allen we overlook the fact that his essential contribution to American culture was defined in his role as an humble servant carrying out the spiritual mandate of his Creator & Saviour.
