Getting sadder by the day

Hiya Gus - how's it hanging?

I dropped in here to see if anyone still checks in - NOTBBC has become very weird recently.

It has also been dead today - and after a 4-1 UEFA Cup victory.

Actually, I'm feeling pretty bad because it looks like I may have inadvertantly p***ed Mungo off to the point he's buggered off. He's a really good blerk actually. Ah well. See yer.

Sorry clarky not checked here for a little while. I think things have sorted themselves.

I know we have not met, but I think I am the least pessemistic person on the planet. I really am never in a bad mood for more than seconds and see the upside of everything.

What I shake me head at is when you criticise anything someone has a go at you for being negative. You can place 400 upbeat threads, but 1 down one and the sharks circle. Now I go back a long way, I was one of the first 10 or so on communicata, remember I put the W in Jonnos TIOY. In those days everyone read every thread. I think now some people only read half of them and come in half cocked (oooer missus). I think there are also some impetuous types also who jump in a little too quick with their answers. Then of course those who take any post which does not agree with their own post as a personal attack.

Put this with the wind up merchants, I am sure macbeth goes on about Shearer because he gets reactions from someone!!!

I am one of those annoying people who will take a contrary position for the sake of a good arguement or should I say discussion. Still it takes all types and for those of us who will listen to others position, explain their own then agree to disagree, this is just a minor annoyance.

From a very personal point of view this is my football club I do not come here for confrontation. I deal with REAL stuff everyday as does Pete in Canada. This does not rate on any scale I measure that by!!

You do not have to answer me clarky, I am used to talking to myself.

-- Anonymous, March 24, 2004

Still muttering happily away.

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2004

As one of those 'impetuous types' I thought I better keep my powder dry for a while! ;o{)

In all seriousness, I do tend to be a bit impetuous but most of all I just argue my position. Someone in Mallorca said to me that too many contributors on the board these days are too thin-skinned and take the hump too easily rather than debating the issue at hand.

Ah well, as you suggest, NUFC is also MY club and personally I really enjoy the interaction and the debate. See ya kidda.

Yes I know what you mean. You old sour faced git! See, now that we have our own bbs, (I wonder if we can change the name to clarky and Gus'unufcbbs)? There is no one to tell me off for making such comments, not knowing that I know that you know I am joking and not have to put smileys anywhere!

I think it is a world wide thing, but doubly or even triply in Australia, that the better you know someone, the more you insult or take the "P" out of them.

Maybe a male thing too, most of the offence takers seem to be young and then some female. Being a gentleman of a certain age gives one an understanding of the world, n'est pas?

All the people I generally abuse, Bud and Loony, I have met and had a few drinks with as well as email on a regular basis. The only one that I have not met and I cross swords with is Screacher, but we too email each other and have an understanding of each others humour.

Not only that I enjoy the diverse backgrounds of people and how they see things, whilst not agreeing I see from where they are coming. Also being on here for so long, and so much I "know" a lot of the background of a lot of people. I also choose to only tell things about myself in small amounts. I do not keep my real name secret and can tell tales of some of my work experience. Some people think that being in Customs is standing at a baggage table at an airport or searching ships in docks. Fine by me. No mention of Public (Civil) Service management, selection, TQM, Managing by results, Audit based Accrual accounting etc etc etc. To be quite honest I think I am trained more to be a CEO than anything else, besides I was in Management training prior to my present career.

the discussions of (NF) also amaze me sometimes. I think of myself as educated and above average intelligence then we have some of the "Special subjects" of some of the people on here, yourself included have taught me so much. Sue and I talk about art, music etc but normally by ourselves not as part of a regular group that we move in. Sometimes for me here is a replacement of some of that.

All in all it is fun, we should not be mad nor carry grudges against anyone as we are drawn by that common thread. Except for some of those pesky makems that get on here!

Cheers

I'm just not as prolific as I used to be - though PFC Wintergreen will no doubt say that I'm still too prolix.

-- Anonymous, April 08, 2004

Happy Easter everyone, or just both of you I suppose.

-- Anonymous, April 09, 2004

Did you get lots of Easter Eggs?

-- Anonymous, April 12, 2004

A belated Happy Easter Gus - just off to watch ManU v Leicester. Sad, I know, but I'll watch anything as long as 22 blerks are kicking a pigs bladder around.

-- Anonymous, April 13, 2004

They do different things with pigs' bladders up these parts. Just ask Gus - he's from Shi*bottle, ye knaa.

-- Anonymous, April 13, 2004

I've just eaten an Easter egg & I feel icky poo.

-- Anonymous, April 13, 2004

Eeeeeeee, a plethora of posts.

You haven't lived until you have seen what they do with a pigs bladder in Shilbottle!

I am working my way through hundreds of eggs, I feel ill all the time!

Chateau Cardboard update time!

The story so far, we moved in and just about everything was fine. Then when we were about to arrange the garden the next door neighbour started getting shitty about his fence falling over.

I had to have the fence pulled up, a retaining wall built and the fence replaced. I paid $2000 for it. The neighbour comes over and starts compaining that his reticulation is not working and his plants have been killed and some of his brick paving has been removed. I said I would sort it. He went on holidays 8 weeks ago. They came back today. I have since found out that he is responsible for half, I will break the news to him on the weekend.

We had a garden wall build in the back, we got it at a height were you can use it as a bench when we have people around. It has been cement rendered. I have painted the wall. The automatic reticulation has been put in and the lawn has been installed front and rear. Over Easter we painted the fence. I only have about 10 metres left to paint.

I have missed a bit, sorry. We had a designer come in and help us with the garden, we sort of knew what we wanted but needed someone to check the plants would be ok where we wanted them. He also quoted on the job. $12,000 but not including the wall ($2500)! We paid for the design, but did the stuff through friends and ourselves. We have had everything but the plants and water feature put in. It has cost us $3000 plus $2500 for the wall and about $300 for paint. The water feature and plants should be another $2000. SO it will end up costing $8000 instead of $15,000.

So we had outdoor power points placed for the water feature and garden lights today. Next week we will put in the plants out the front and I will finish painting the fence. In 2 weeks time we will do the water feature and lights, then another 2 weeks the plants out the back. That should be the end but it isn't. The brick paving has to be relaid in spots where work was done. That will then finish the outside.

Next time I will tell you about the finishing touches to the inside.

Thought that would scare you all away!

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2004

Still too scared to pop in eh?

-- Anonymous, April 20, 2004

Still going strong too!

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2004

So, you haven't had the coal hoose and netty (ie. that's a dunny, I believe) built yet then?

Bliddy nouveau riche Aussies! ;o{)

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2004

Well we did think of them, but as the temperature seldom drops to single figures we don't need coal and these clever Aussie builders actually built us indoor netties!

Mind they have given us 3 I'm not sure why they build them with 3 netties!

-- Anonymous, April 24, 2004

It's a pisser, isn't it? ;o{)

-- Anonymous, April 26, 2004

I have to use them all in rotation to keep them working properly too!

-- Anonymous, April 29, 2004

Just about got the garden in now!

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2004

Nearly lost this one an aaall

-- Anonymous, May 18, 2004

Have some heavy shovelling to do this week. The soil for the last garden bed should arrive on Monday or Tuesday. I will then have 2 days to get it in because the plants for the garden should be coming next weekend!!

-- Anonymous, May 23, 2004

I'm still trying to sell my house and move into the countryside but so far no takers. If we don't get a solid offer in the next few weeks we lose the deposit on the new house we're reserving. Oh well. I was looking forward to living somewhere where I wouldn't have any improvements to make for about 10 years: looks like I'm stuck with replacing the rest of the radiators, repointing the whole house over the next 3 years, resealing all the windows, stripping the woodwork on the porch and repainting it and fitting security doors from the garage to the kitchen and the porch to the house. I need a second job :-(

-- Anonymous, May 28, 2004

From what you have written, you have a second job!

-- Anonymous, May 28, 2004

Oh, is this the home improvement board?

If you'd like a vacation to Maryland, Softie or Gus, I need my entire condo painted, wood(or probably laminate given my budget,or lack thereof) flooring installed throughout, stuccoed and mirrored drywall needing to be replaced, new lighting intalled, 2 bathrooms needing makeovers, and new kitchen cabinets and appliances installed.

If you get bored, I'm sure I could find a few more things that need doing.... ;-)

Sorry to hear about the sluggish sales, Softie. Hope you get that offer. It would be very nice to move into a new place. Good luck!

I have been to that area in 92 when competing in the Law Enforcement Olympics in DC!

You are in "Property Management" now Ciara, so you will have to lok after it yourself. May I recommend 2 shows on PBS channels in the US? This Old House from WGBH (Boston) perhaps and Designer Guys from Canada!
