Don't look like a legit store

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Came across simplyvcd.com. Look like legit VCDs but not sure. Please e-mail me if anyone have purchased from them. Thanks

I've emailed them a number of times about things on their site. No reply, ever. CCNow links to them as a valid vendor, so I don't know. I think I'd avoid it.

I've used www.a1vcd.com recently. I've purchased about 50 discs from them, no problems. They've always been helpful. Their site isn't always reflective of the stock they have, so you may want to email them if you want to purchase something.

I have found the following stores to be reliable: http://www.allvcds.com http://www.vcdgallery.com There may be other good stores, but I've used both of these before and they are legit. If you live in America, I would suggest that you not order more than one copy of any title and that you not buy too many discs on your orders. The reason is that the larger your order, the more likely US Customs will take an interest in it. You are legally allowed to buy one copy of any VCD for your personal use. If you buy 2 or more copies of the same VCD, you could be considered a "dealer", which might cause you to be subject to some royalty payment issues that you don't want to deal with. Also, US Customs sometimes seizes very large shipments, even if the merchandise is legit, because they think large orders are bootlegs. If US Customs seizes your shipment, right or wrong, the reality is that you won't get it back. My personal recommendation is that I have never, ever had problems with US Customs if I have ordered 3 VCDs or less. I would not recommend that you order more than that. Maybe up to 5 is OK, but I wouldn't recommend you order, say, 20 at once. Maybe you will be OK, but again, the larger the order, the more likely US Customs will want to "look" at it, and that is not going to be good. Don't worry, if your order is seized you won't go to jail, but you will be screwed and lose your order. This forum has posts from guys in the past who had their orders seized by US Customs because they tried to buy too much at once. To be fair, most of these guys were buying bootlegs, but I can assure you that US Customs is not smart enough to know bootlegs from legitimate merchandise and the last thing you want is them being interested in your order. Keep it small and you won't have problems.

I've ordered large amounts of DVDs before (30 discs,) all different titles, both from Malaysia and Singapore.

I would tend to think that customs doesn't care, as long as you don't buy multiple copies or order 100s of disks at once.
