Praying the Chaplet for a friend who has passed

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

To Whomever Will Answer This Query, A month and a half ago, I lost my best friend (who was like a brother to me, and still is)in an automobile accident. As my faith allows me to do so, I know that he did not suffer. Be that as it may, I have recentl began to pray the Rosary, and also pray the Chaplet. Please direct me as to how I should be praying the Chaplet for my departed friend, Anthony Quinn. Do I verbally commit the Chaplet to him, or am I to keep it as a thought as I say it? Thank you for your time concerning this question of mine. God Bless, Harry

I say the Rosary and the chaplet daily and when it is for an intention I just mention it in my thoughts i.e. For ..... and then start. I also meditate on the sorrowful passion (scripture verse for each bead in my mind so that the mind will not stray) when I say the chaplet of Divine Mercy,

God Bless, Ramanie.

Harry,

I'm sorry for your loss. In my opinion, if you pray the Chaplet with the intention of committing it for your friend's benefit, that you can do this in the way you feel is most fitting. The intention is the most important thing and God knows your heart. Personally, I usually vocalize it at the beginning for my own benefit. Throughout the prayer, I sometimes find that thoughts of my loved one in relation to the Divine Mercy can help me keep focused too. I think the main thing is to stay focused on the Divine Mercy and be open to the Holy Spirit. Ramanie has a great suggestion in this regard. Prayer, even the Rosary and Divine Mercy, is very personal, so I would say to commit your intentions the way that works best for you. Just my humble opinion. Take it with a grain of salt.

Anthony is blessed by God to have a friend such as you to pray for him. Dedicating a prayer is an act of will, you do not need to say it aloud, you do not even need to think it, as long as you intend it then God knows. I often (when work allows) pray the Chaplet at 2:00 on EWTN, if I get the chance today I will offer it for your friend Anthoy as well.

God Bless you
