You do not state your level of education or your background knowledge of Poe. If a beginnr go to www.eapoe.org and knowingpoe/thinkport.org. Cheack out the serious essays at Poe Studies and Poe Decoder. Most of the territory is well plowed but Poe's unique stamp is always a mystery worht more investigation, his poetry an appreciation more serious than generally given.

If in high school simply watch out for over simplifications or old assumptions the trap that longime popularity and popular genres has turned into misleading legend. You might try to pin down an old idea more thoroughly. For example, Poe considers the effect of the short story to be overiding and the core of unity. You might define that further as to how, for the main character the awesome experience (good or tragic) is everything even when that character expresses guilt for his actions because of it. That experience not only is the core of the story but it overshadows the being and life of the character-narrator as well with no sympathy left for others or self.

Thesis suggestions don't say much. Your talking about Poe - what are you talking about regarding Poe? His poetry, life, etc?
