M.D.&S. R.R. engineer & crew on the last passenger traingreenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread
I found several photos of the Macon, Dublin & Savannah's "last pass. train". They are dated 12-1949. One shot is of the engineer at the thottle of MD&S 4-6-2 #875. There is also one shot of the train standing at some point where the track switchs off to "their" right. They stoped on this track for the photo. The engineer, fireman and "may be" the conductor are seen. I wondered if someone has found any info concerning this last passenger trains run. Thanks Don Worthy

The operation of a "last" passenger train was usually considered to be a newsworthy event and was covered by most of the newspapers along the route of the train. Often there would be photos and the crew was often identified in the paper. If you have access to a major library, say at Macon or Savannah, I would see if they have newspapers on microfilm and check out the newspaper for the date of the last run. That's the way I have come up with some good information on the last opertion of passenger trains.
