What day did jesus die....What day did he rise

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

This topic has been the closing out of many black preachers sermons. However, it never caught on until i got old enough to count. The way the preacher say it its really 1 day and 2 nights. In order for it to be 3 days it might have been on a wednesday or a thursday if he arose on the third and not 3 days spent. Then we could say why do we think it was sunday. Is is because of the sabbath which could really be on saturday.Because sunday is really the beginnig of the week which makes it the first day not the seventh. Lets see what the good doctors say. Keep Knowledge flowing....Each one Teach one God Bless

Just out of curiosity, why won't you use your name? Thanks.

Its not to safe. Alot of people out in cyber space aren't really who they say they are. I teach my kids the same thing. Once people have your first and last name they can find out any thing they want about you.

So what is it that you are hiding that you don't want anyone to find out about. you make me more curious about what you want and what can you bring or offer this board if you cannot even be true to yourself. Besides, what difference does it make what day did jesus bear that cross. you do know that it was from the sixth to the ninth hour. I believe the process started officially on a thursday evening becasue in Jewish time at six begins a new day. it was also very quiet and calm all around in the days leading up to Maundy Thursday. Find oyour own story and find yourself in it and you tell your story. Some of what I am saying ahs good validity but I had to find me in the midst of my struggles in Seminary right now.

Douglas Forbes, you sound like a person who doesn't have any thing to hide. Thats why when that stuff came out on you a couple months ago because every one knew who you were. And were they wrong i don't know. The thing is you should have some kind of privacy on a chat line. Which this is. God Bless and Keep Knowledge flowing

With your prayers I will keep knowledge flowing and yes I was attacked on this board but that is why regulars on this board could defend me because my efforts and my work has shown up for me. It is very unsafe out here and as long as you keep the positve vibes coming you will have no problem from me. Let me know if there is anyting I can do to help you. If you see me at a meeting, let me knwo who you are. I will be very visible in Indianapolis.

First of all the e-mail is correct how ever it does block out e-mails from persons who i do not know. i have a buisness e-mail and a personal e-mail. My buisness e-mail everything and anything can come in. But my personal e-mail which this is you can't. Why are you trying to e-mail me for any way. Who are you and what do want? I just wanted to have some type of discussion on this issue. However, knowing the good A.M.E.'s unless its about gossip or election you don't know anything. God Bless Keep Knowledge Flowing

I really do not know the answer to that questions, and actually I've never thought about it. However, Pastor student, maybe you should check out these website links for answers. They may be able to peak your curiosity, or assist you with the paper you may be writing for school. God bless. I was not trying to email you. However when someone responds to your post you selected to receive the emails. Thus they bounce. Don't assume that anyone wants to contact you personally unless they say so.

The short answers are: The crucifixion was on Wednesday and the resurrection was on Saturday evening.

Slight elaboration: This is the only way to get 3 days and 3 nights (72 hours) and allow for an empty tomb early the first day of the week.

We have assumed Friday crucifixion because Jesus was entombed before the Sabbath; however, which Sabbath? Holy days, such as Passover, were also considered Sabbaths and Jesus was crucified just before Passover which was not on the same day as the weekly Sabbath (Saturday).
