Death is probably Poe's most recurrent theme in fiction, treated in various manners for various effects (terror, humour, philosophy, irony, metaphysic, pure grotesque, literary satire, &c..., &c...), but not at all Poe's own "obsession". Yours sincerely, Raven's Shade (Belgium).
