1 Corinthians 10:13 - No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

Also, compare and contrast the calling of Saint Peter and his brother versus the calling by our Lord of the sons of thunder (Saint John and his brother). This was in the Gospel in the last couple weeks (daily mass). In calling Saint Peter, Christ made a very simple request, while in calling Saint John it was much more sacrificial for John to comply. Yet Christ knew what each could initially handle so he tailored the request to each.
