where can i find free software to help me convert .dat to .avi files.

im sorry but i couldnt find it anywhere on here...............i know about tempengc, but everywhere i go and try to download it, it is unavailable.

are there any other programs?

TMPGenc should be available at http://www.tmpgenc.net. However, I am guessing that what you really want to do is convert DAT to DivX. http://www.vcdhelp.com has some guides on doing this. TMPGenc can't help you make DivX. It's only good for encoding something to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video. You should be aware that if you convert DAT, which is VCD, to DivX, the final result is going to be of worse quality than the original VCD.
