Cold weather impact on zoom control

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Dirck Halstead : One Thread

I have a Sony PD150 and was filming on a very cold day with a cold draft coming through the door to the hall where I was filming. Suddenly my zoom began to make a whirring sound and the whole image began to shake eratically. The camera sounded almost like it was malfuntioning. When I put it in a warm area for a while the problem just stopped. Could this have been due to a sub-freezing temperature. Any insights please help.
