I have found that tall peas are much more productive than short ones. Has anyone else had this experience?

I'd be interested in hearing feedback on this. We have such a short spring here in southern Oklahoma that peas can be a challenge.

Depends on why you are growing them, on what and where and which variety. Tall peas need support and shelter from winds (extra work) short don't. They will both enrich the soil and can be used as a green mulch, but tall peas will need more cutting for this. Here in Andalucia I had been growing short peas to fix nitrogen and mulch on a very very poor soil without much success, so I tried beans (mung) with better results and now I am trying to get some mucuna pruriens beans as I want to try them.

I'd grown the tall Sugar Snap peas for years, but the past couple of years I've switched to the short Sugar Ann snap peas. The tall sugar snaps most definitely produce more 'cause they just keep on blossoming over an extended period. Great if you have a big family with kids that like to eat them raw!! Mmmmm good :-)!! The short ones produce one good harvest, but are much easier to plant in succession if you want to. Oh yeah...I have to stake the Sugar Anns also. They'll grow up to 4 ft. tall!!
