What relevance and affect does the Synod of Whitby have today?

Having looked at the allegiance of Britain to to the Roman church following the Synod of Whitby in AD664, what effect do you think this had on spirituality of the people of the time and how does it affect us in our faith today?

Dear Philip,
Please come back with an overview of the subject for us the uninformed. I have visited England a few times and was very impressed with devotion in Catholic parishes. I've read a few books by your best English authors and enjoyed them. One of the finest films I've seen is A Man For All Seasons. I thought it was brilliantly written, and loved the sight of Hampton Court in the setting; having visited there.

It woud be a pleasure to see more contributions here if you would like to send them. Well, Come on!

You mean other than establishing the date of Easter in England? Do you have any ideas you would like to propose?

In Christ,
Bill
